Re: Pathetic Big 12 bowls
Don't want to go "cave" but the thing about the Pinstripe Bowl is that plenty of people in Texas and Oklahoma are brought up to believe NYC is the epicenter of all evil in the world.
Obviously ISU doesn't have the largest Big 12 fanbase, but I imagine our fans would be the most excited to visit New York City by a mile. We've already gone, that leaves inviting us again or people from states who generally hate New York City.
Re: Pathetic Big 12 bowls
Pinstripe bowl needs to be a special occasion for teams - not a binding conference bid. No team should have to go there more than once a decade or so - but celebrate when when they do. They have special circumstances and need not have repeat teams for a long time. Conference tie-ins don't really work for this bowl.

Ditto. It would be better for the sponsor, let alone the bowl.
Hey Chic-fil-A...you can sponsor some crappy exhibition game, or The Historic Peach Bowl. You've chosen a crappy exhibition for several years in a row. Horrible marketing decision. Bad for the fans, bad for the bowl, bad for the sponsor.

Excellent point. Not sure a .500 record is bowl worthy.

I actually thought the Holiday Bowl for 7-5 is pretty incredible. With as tough as the Big 12 is now it's deserved, but 10 years ago when the league was softer a 7-5 Big 12 team to the Holiday Bowl would have been a steal for us.

100%? Really? You've been in the Windy City too long.
Give me Park Avenue.

It means that someone goes to that bowl to play a cupcake opponent.
Re: Pathetic Big 12 bowls
I liked the NYC bowl. Granted, I lived in western Massachusetts at the time, so I was able to drive to Yankee Stadium in 2.5 hours, but, still, I liked the NYC bowl.
I would really like the Washington, DC bowl now, too. Taking a blue line to the game would be sweeeeeeeeeeet.
Florida bowls are A+, though. We should have at least one of those on our slate.
Cotton/San Diego/Tampa or Orlando/Houston/Tempe/NYC or Washington/BCS/something random after that is not too bad of a lineup, to be fair to that. Even our decent, middle-of-the-road (for the Big XII) teams can go to pretty neat ones in San Diego and Arizona easily enough.

My ideal bowl lineup would look like this
#1----BCS-Doesn't really matter
#2----Cotton
#3----Outback
#4----Alamo
#5----Sun
#6----Holiday
#7----Armed Forces
#8----Las Vegas
Feel free to add your own...it really doesnt make any sense to me that the Big 10, which sucks, has such great bowls.
Sucks? No. Not what we should have, yes.
All in due time- starting in 2014.

That wouldn't bother me too much.
I'm not a curmudgeon who wishes we were still in a six-bowl world, but there should be some level of unique achievement associated with postseason.
I realize ISU would have only maybe four or five bowl appearances all-time under such a setup (and no more than one in the past 10 years) — but everyone else would be in the same boat, too.
Re: Pathetic Big 12 bowls
Less Arizona. Less Texas. No New York. Need another Bowl in Caili, + one in Florida and one in either Vegas or Atlanta
Re: Pathetic Big 12 bowls
Spending winters in FL definitely makes me wish there was a Big XII bowl tie in here. Allegiant flies direct to several FL destinations from CR and Moline. Not sure about DSM or Omaha. The Gator bowl has some pretty good history, but to be honest, Jacksonville is not a prime FL destination. Basically the weather is Georgia. Iowa fans may remember a Gator Bowl appearance with incredibly cold weather. Isn't there a lower level bowl in St. Pete?

Yes, this would help a ton. As it is now, I can't keep track of what bowl was which historically, because the names keep changing as sponsorship changes. If they included the sponsor (which I don't like) and the original bowl name, at least that would secure a little more of the bowl tradition.
Re: Pathetic Big 12 bowls
People blast New York for a bowl game. People say no one wants to go there in the winter but around NYE is one of the most popular times to visit. I wasn't excited about the bowl until I went last year. Absolute blast. They operated that bowl game like an upper tier game and it was pretty awesome to have my favorite team playing in Yankee Stadium. Do I want the Cyclones to go there every year? No, but it definitely isn't as bad as what people say it is. The only problem is convincing people to get there to enjoy it.
