Re: Liberty Bowl
Well, we cannot blame UI for all the Big 12 teams being demoted in the bowl pecking order,. The Hawks actually did their part and were the only team to beat NIU, but the Huskies ran the table and wound up in the BCS top 16.
An ironic twist in all this is that La Tech was left out of the bowl picture completely at 9-3. Tonight, La Tech AD, and Jamie Pollard's predecessor at ISU, Bruce Van De Velde is in the news tonight. It seems Bruce did not accept the Independence Bowl offer in a timely fashion, since he was holding out for the Liberty Bowl slot. Then when OU got bumped out of the BCS, ISU got bumped out of the Big 12 Bowls, and then the Big 12 (not sure how that works, actually) somehow swooped in and bumped La Tech from its expected place in the Liberty Bowl vs Tulsa. Can't blame Bruce for not leaping at a chance to lock down the Independence Bowl, But I am guessing he is kicking himself now.

Most of this comes from smaller bowls where there just isn't the interest (Such as this one). I don't know if we'll lose money or not, but the bowl platform needs to be cut. As far as practice, let every team practice through the end of the year.

Then, since NU went down in flames in the B1G title game, they tubled 9 places in the poles, making room for NIU to make it to #16. But those are the rules of the BCS.

Re: Liberty Bowl
i wonder how the players feel about playing Tulsa again. Hopefully they are just as motivated this time around as they were for the first time we played them . Tulsa wants revenge on us!

As far as practice, let every team practice through the end of the year. Teams can lose even more from BCS bowls though since schools have to pay for a certain amount of tickets no matter what and those tickets could be very expensive. NIU has to buy 17,500 tickets for their game, which is more than their average attendance this year. They will lose a ton of money.
Luckily the Big 12 just splits all the bowl revenue and also the losses that schools take and then divides the net.
The practices I agree with, as those are really the most important bowl reward.

(And it should be against NCAA rules to have a field any color than green) Also, it should be against NCAA rules to play any team in a bowl game on their home field. (i.e. Humanitarian Bowl)
Yes, agreed. Bonus practices mean a lot!

Location: Perfectly fine. Happy actually. Memphis sounds fun and is only a 10 hour drive.
I went to our first Liberty Bowl game back in 1972 and it was a lot of fun - good partying town. Drove down with 2 friends and after the close loss we started to drive back but the thought of turning left and going further South to warmer weather to too much temptation for 3 young Iowa boys. I seem to remember spending Christmas in Miami that year but maybe it was just New Years. Has the game always been on December 31?

If you read the Bruce Feldman story,it says Van De Velde said the Heart of Dallas bowl was talking to LA TECH,the question is why because with the bowl's tie ins with the Big 12 and Big 10,LA TECH had no chance of going to that bowl in the first place.

ESPN announcers made a big deal about NIU making a BCS game when they lost to Iowa "the worst team in the B10" and OU gets shafted. Any EIU fans watching had to get butt hurt at that but it's the truth. No More Hurting People, PEACE MARTIN RICHARD age 8 Boston, MA. CYCLONE CLUB AND SUNSHINE & RAINBOWS JIHAD MEMBER
