If you were a BCS committee of one, who would you pick
Start by assuming you don't have automatic conference qualifiers, the two team from a conference max, and the top 16 non-AQ rule. How would you have lined up the BCS bowls this year? Both to have the best teams play and have the best games.
Notre Dame, Alabama, Oregon, Kansas St., and Florida would all be in for me having 0 or 1 loss against top schedules. Stanford is in as a two loss conference champion who played a top schedule. For me that leaves four spots for Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M, S. Carolina, Oklahoma, and Florida St. Its tough for me to differentiate that group. By the numbers Oklahoma had the toughest schedule and FSU had the easiest. FSU is the only true conference champion in the group. I would probably end up with Oklahoma, Florida St., Georgia, and LSU.
National Championship: Notre Dame vs. Alabama
Rose: Stanford vs. Florida
Sugar: Georgia vs. Oklahoma
Orange: Florida St. vs. LSU
Fiesta: Kansas St. vs. Oregon

Reseed those teams, put them in a playoff and color me excited.

National Championship: Notre Dame vs. Kansas State
Rose: Stanford vs. Florida
Sugar: Georgia vs. Oklahoma
Orange: Florida St. vs. Alabama
Fiesta: LSU vs. Oregon

Without any restrictions on conferences or automatic qualifiers, it would boil down to who I think the ten best teams are. Here's my Top 10:
1) Notre Dame
2) Alabama
3) Kansas State
4) Georgia
5) Stanford
6) Florida
7) Oregon
8) Oklahoma
9) Texas A&M
10) LSU
Then, for the sake of interest, I tried to put the teams closest to one another in the rankings together, while avoiding rematches.
I put Florida vs. Stanford in the Rose to keep the Pac-12 in their bowl, Georgia vs. Kansas State in the Sugar as a preview of the SEC-Big 12 bowl in the future, Oregon-A&M in the Fiesta for geography, and then LSU-OU was left for the Orange Bowl.
It would be "put up or shut up" time for the SEC, as they would be in every single BCS bowl. Their fans would be insufferable in the lead-up to these games. As a matter of fact, only three conferences would be represented among the ten teams - five from the SEC and two each from the Pac-12 and Big 12 (along with one independent). I think this shows where the power in college football really resides.

If I was doing that I would have the six seeded teams being: 1. Notre Dame 2. Alabama 3. Florida 4. Oregon 5. Kansas St. 6. Stanford. With the winner of an Oklahoma vs. Florida St. playing Alabama as the 7 seed and the winner of Georgia vs. LSU playing Notre Dame as the 8.
If you wanted to get down to a more traditional eight team format I would probably cut LSU and Florida St.

If I did a playoff I would go eight teams. I would trade Oregon and Oklahoma in my Top 10 to avoid an OU-ND rematch:
#8 Oregon @ #1 Notre Dame
#5 Stanford @ #4 Georgia
#6 Florida @ #3 Kansas State
#7 Oklahoma @ #2 Alabama
I would re-seed each round to put highest vs. lowest, so that way if both Big 12 and Pac-12 teams win, the semis wouldn't have two rematches but instead would be Oregon @ Kansas State and Oklahoma @ Stanford.
Can you imagine the weekend of football with those four first-round games... Put one on Friday night and the other three on Saturday at 12:00, 3:30, and 7:00...
If it were me...
Friday night game - Stanford @ Georgia
Saturday at 12:00 - Florida @ Kansas State
Saturday at 3:30 - Oregon @ Notre Dame
Saturday at 7:00 - Oklahoma @ Alabama
Re: If you were a BCS committee of one, who would you pick
I want Oregon to play a SEC defense, and a B12 team to play Ohio State, who I would let in on the basis of my personal entertainment. Also want Les Miles to eat a D, not for my personal entertainment.
NC: ND vs. Alabama
Rose: Oregon vs. Florida
Sugar: OU vs. Georgia
Orange: FSU vs. Stanford
Fiesta: KSU vs. tOSU

Here’s my tournament field — jostling some seeds to avoid first-round matchups within conference:
1 Notre Dame
16 No. Illinois
8 Stanford
9 Texas A&M
5 Kansas State
12 South Carolina
4 Florida
13 Oregon State
6 Georgia
11 Florida State
3 Oregon
14 Clemson
7 LSU
10 Oklahoma
2 Alabama
15 UCLA
Re: If you were a BCS committee of one, who would you pick
After some more thought and seeing a couple of the other ideas, I'm leaning towards:
Championship: Notre Dame vs. Alabama
Rose: Stanford vs. Texas A&M
Sugar: Kansas St. vs. Florida
Orange: Florida St. vs. Oklahoma
Fiesta: Oregon vs. Georgia
Re: If you were a BCS committee of one, who would you pick
NIU vs Iowa for the national championship obviously.

Multiple, consecutive weeks of meaningful connectivity among elite teams — baffling! :jimlad:
