I'm in charge of booking our hotel for our group and I don't want to end up far away from the stadium/Beale Street. Every google search I do has a disclaimer of "don't go out in this neighborhood at night" so I don't want to screw this up. I saw CF is going to be at the Crowne Plaza but what other places have people found or would recommend?
Courtyard at Marriott in Germantown, TN. It is about 9-10 miles from Liberty Bowl in a safe neighborhood (compared to downtown). Rooms in the $115-$125 range.

Not sure about the drive, but confirmation that Germantown is safe. In-Laws lived down there for a few years, that's where they lived.
everywhere i look downtown is no rooms available or $350 a night.
Unfortunately downtown Memphis is not cheap but I figure when would I have an excuse to spend NYE on Beale street.
Of course I can always let the cheapskate in me talk me into cancelling the reservations and booking a Motel 6 on the outskirts of town.
They say country music speaks to the heart. Unfortunately, it has to go through your ears to get there.

From the Libertybowl.org website some suggestions: Hotels
I just booked our room at the "Residence Inn by Marriott". It was cheaper than the crowne plaza (not by much), and less than half mile from Beale. I went through the TA on the liberty bowl website. Think it's about 240/night. I feel it's worth it (and I typically am the guy who opts for Motel 6 or Super 8 to be cheap).
I believe it is actually different than the Marriott that the Alum. Assoc. is staying at, though...
Also, there is some fine print regarding parking fees... not sure if the other downtown places have similar fees - but it looks like 18/day to park your car...
