Re: Iowa State's Class of 2013

The article says he wants to be closer to home (Youngstown, OH?) and have a chance to play more. What makes you think he would be interested in Iowa State? We aren't much closer to home and he would still have to compete here, although he would seem to have a good chance. The "closer to home" we know is often BS. So, any reason to think he might be interested in us?

Re: Iowa State's Class of 2013

ESPN Article on Justin Madison (2013 DE from Tampa, Fla.):
Madison enjoying late rise in popularity - Football Recruiting - Southeast Region Blog - ESPN
    Dated: 1/29/2013
"Madison Enjoying Late Rise in Popularity"

In a perfect world late-rising senior Justin Madison (Tampa, Fla./Robinson) would just take an official visit to Wake Forest this weekend and choose between the ACC program and Iowa State on signing day. However two in-state programs have made it hard for Madison to stick to the original plan.

Madison has received offers from Miami (Fla) and South Florida in the past week. The South Florida offer came on Tuesday and might have bumped Miami from contention.

“South Florida is coming in pretty late, but it’s a new staff and they are doing a whole new set of evaluations,” Madison said. “I think I’m going to go by the school and meet the staff tomorrow and we’ll see what happens.

“It’s still unlikely they will be able to get in between Iowa State and Wake Forest because my relationship with those two staffs is so strong.”

Madison is an interesting case, as he gave up football last year to focus on basketball. After a year away from the sport he missed his teammates and asked to rejoin the football team during the middle of the season.

In eight games Madison became one of the team leaders and top performers. Robinson’s success in the playoffs kept Madison on the field and in front of college scouts.

“He was a major contributor for us this season and just a heck of an athlete in general,” Robinson head coach Mike DuPue said. “He’s also a good kid and a hard worker.”

Madison took his official visit to Iowa State this past weekend and said he could definitely see himself playing for the Cyclones next year.

“They really had everything set up nicely from the program’s facilities to the academic requirements,” Madison said. “Academics is important to me and I was able to meet with the advisors and talk about my major and the plan towards getting a degree.”

This weekend Madison will stick to his plan to visit Wake Forest.

“I was talking to Miami for a second but the Wake Forest coaches have been with me from the beginning and I want to see what they have to offer,” Madison said. “I will probably go to USF because it’s right there, but I’m serious about my interest in Wake Forest.”

Based on the dispersement of scholarships between offense and defense, it would appear the remaining slots will go to recruits on the defensive side. Of course, this spreadsheet doesn't account for players switching positions. Best player available is a phase often used.

Re: Iowa State's Class of 2013

Only two days until the faxes (or are they .pdf) start rolling in. Public info would suggest 3 scholarships are not designated. By many accounts the staff has raised the over talent level the year. Below is a list of targeted recruits ordered by SWAG at most likely to sign with the good guys.

Kind of a cliffhanger; will it be:
    1. Sign 3 more and hit the 85 scholarship limit
    2. Sign 4 knowing 1 will not make it to campus or another is leaving the team
    3. Sign only 2 and CPR signs someone late or rewards a walk-on

Re: Iowa State's Class of 2013

    Regarding "E. Davarez Bryant"
ESPN article on his visit to Florida State this past weekend.

Davarez Bryant (New Smyrna Beach, Fla./New Smyrna Beach) said prior to his visit to Florida State this weekend that he wouldn't be making a decision. He held to that statement leaving the Seminoles' campus undeclared.

But that doesn't mean the defensive end didn't have a good time. In fact, it was much the opposite.

"Yeah, on a scale from one to 10, it was a 10," Bryant said. "It was a great time."

Official visits, of course, afford the prospects and the coaches to have great amounts of interaction for the weekend. One of the highlights for Bryant was to be able to talk to Florida State's head coach, Jimbo Fisher.

What Fisher said to Bryant left a lasting impact and a good feeling.

"It was meeting Coach Fisher," Bryant said of his favorite part. "Just sitting down and talking with him. His personality is great. He just said that he thought for a first-year player - he said he usually thinks basketball players can be soft - but he said I was a good player for it being my first year. That was amazing to hear."

The academic side of the visit was always going to be important to Bryant. He knew about the football team's success over the years, that was no mystery to him.

But having been on an official visit to his other finalist, Iowa State, he needed to know if Florida State had something to offer, too.

"They have one of the top communications programs in the country," Bryant said. "So that was definitely good."

Karlos Williams, a rising junior defensive back, was Bryant's host for the weekend. Known for his jovial attitude, Williams lived up to the reputation.

"He is a funny guy," said Bryant. "He has a great personality overall."

Though his visit was admittedly great, Bryant isn't ready to tip his hand. For that, everyone must wait until Wednesday morning when he signs his letter of intent.

"No, not really," he said. "It is still even right now."

Re: Iowa State's Class of 2013

Welcome Justin Madison to Iowa State's Class of 2013. He is the 23rd known verbal commitment in the class (unless CW is holding out on us).

Nice to improve the LB numbers, it seemed a little thin with 4 leaving this year. Only one Sr. and one Jr. so its going to be a young group regardless if they move a safety to a hybrid position.

10 on a 10 point scale, huh? Sounds like FSU is employing the old Colorado recruiting strategy.

I'm thinking it will be these 4, in some way, shape or form (that is, with how the other scholarships, etc play out.)
