Re: Iowa State's Class of 2013
So how many posters are eating crow these days from the freak out back in early fall about our recruiting class?
Truly shows the ineptitude and stupidity some posters show here.

Truly shows the ineptitude and stupidity some posters show here. To be fair, had our class finished the way it started, that would not have been very encouraging. I don't think one person expected the finish we had to recruiting and if someone says they did, they are lying.

And I guess I'm supposedly lying, but I had trust in the staff to fill the class out nicely.
Sorry some people don't understand the dynamics of recruiting sometimes.

Sorry some people don't understand the dynamics of recruiting sometimes. You expected the best recruiting month in ISU history? Ok then......

But assume on there chief! Well it was arguably the best month we have ever had. There is no way anyone could have predicted Curtis committing, Coe comitting 5 days later, Meeks switching from QB to LB to play here 3 days after that, Campos switching from Mizzou to ISU 3 days after that, then 2 days later getting Lazard (13 months before signing day) as the highest rated recruit ISU has ever gotten.
Before that, ISU had 21 commits in a supposedly small class. The highest rated were two 5.6 3 stars (one was JUCO RB Wimberly, one was OL Jacob Homa). To put that in perspective, we had 7 recruits at 5.6 or higher last year in 21 commits. That class was ranked 80th in the nation by rivals.
Now like I have said before, ratings aren't the end all be all of everything, but they are an indicator of progress over time. People were concerned because they didn't see progress and they didn't see very much space to improve the class before it was full. I think some also expected the new facilities being built to affect recruiting a lot more before it was opened than it did. It obviously did help a ton more when it was opened.
Nobody could've predicted that we would land those 5 commits in that time span, it is just unusual.
I'm going to bold this because this is important to distinguish: I am not on board with the "CPR is running our of gas" BS that you may be talking about. However, if you are talking about expecting Rhoads to improve steadily in recruiting when given improved facilities the way he has been, it is perfectly reasonable. You don't have to think Paul Rhoads is an idiot for offering the kids he does in order to wish he would recruit more highly rated players.
Obviously anyone who thinks they know better than Rhoads or think he doesn't know what he is doing are stupid, but to quote you: "No **** Sherlock."
Also, "Chief" I said claiming you predicted the best recruiting month in school history would make you a liar, not "ending with a pretty solid class" (whatever that means). So no, I did not insinuate that you are a liar.

Re: Iowa State's Class of 2013
Honestly, I was a little concerned about the class this past summer. They had very few recruits with BCS offers. It looked like "more of the same" to me. And more of the same equates to 6-6/5-7. I wanted to see them up the talent a notch. Thankfully, they've seemingly done that closing out the class. I'd like to see them hang on to Bibbs and Wimberly, but, a JUCO TE and a JUCO RB/slot WR shouldn't be exceptionally hard to come by. It's not like they need two starters there. Brun did pretty well at TE and I think that they could get by finding a really good blocking TE or a big WR to block screens and catch jump balls. For Wimberly, I've said all along that I think that he is a slot WR meant to replace Horne. Horne had basically zero other offers, so I'm thinking that they can find someone to take Wimberly's spot and back up Jarvis West easy enough.

Re: Iowa State's Class of 2013
losing wimberly would not be a big deal at all. we have shontrelle, white, woody, nealy and standard all returning plus that true freshman coming in next year. i thought wimberly could be a good kick returner and contribute at RB in 2 years. if he goes elsewhere then no big deal like i said
as far as lanning, i doubt he stays at QB. why would he? richardson has 3 years left, rohach 4 and barnett 2 plus trevor hodge will be here and he looks like a better QB to me. lanning could be a bigger help at saftey or linebacker. watching hodge's highlights, i think he could be a cam newton type if he bulks up and works hard

We were still only ranked #80 last year, and that is the context I was trying to apply. Even if we do have 5 recruits bumped up were would still only come even with our class last year. Didn't they just have an update? I know a few of our 2 star/unranked players got bumped to 3 stars.

Re: Iowa State's Class of 2013
For 2013, the limiting factor is 85 scholarships. ISU has 23 available at this point meaning the class is full with known verbals. Will they all sign? CPR has a great track record of keeping the commits but there are situations like with Wimbely where a verbal may not make it to campus. Of course, we don’t have any idea if any scholarship players are transferring after the bowl game.
While high school recruits must wait until Feb. to sign with a school, junior college recruits enrolling for the spring semester are able to sign on 12/19. These EE (Early Enrollers) can count against last year’s signing class to help with signing more than 25 in one year but again the overall program limit is 85.
Iowa State's Class of 2013
1. Trevor Hodge, QB, Perris, (Calif.) Citrus Hill
2. Kamari Syrie, DB, Hurst, (Texas) L.D. Bell
3. Emmanuel Bibbs, TE, Arizona Western C.C.
4. Jacob Homa, OL, Brookfield, (Wisc.) Central
5. Alex Leslie, TE, New Braunfels, (Texas)
6. Tyler Brown, RB, Lakeland, (Fla.) Lake Gibson
7. Nigel Tribune, DB, Jacksonville, (Fla.) Raines
8. D.A. Williams, DB, St. Augustine, (Fla.)
9. Justin Webster, ATH, Houston, (Texas) Northland Christian
10. J.D. Waggoner, DE, Dallas, (Texas) Jesuit
11. Brandon Harris, WR, Cedar Hill, (Texas)
12. Nick Severs, OL, Macomb, (Ill.)
13. Vincent Johnson, OL, Sacramento, (Calif.) Christian Brothers
14. Joel Lanning, QB, Ankeny, Iowa
15. Brian Mills, LB, East Ridge, (Fla.) Clermont
16. Bryan Ajumobi, WR, South Grand Prairie, (Texas) Grand Prairie
17. Ernest Suttles, DE, Tampa, (Fla.) Gaither

21. Rodney Coe, DL, Iowa Western C.C.
22. Alton Meeks, LB, Orlando, (Fla.) Dr. Phillips
23. Jake Campos, OL, West Des Moines, (Iowa) Valley

Iowa State’s Class of 2014/2013 “grey-shirts” or walk-on
1. Allen Lazard, WR, Urbandale, Iowa
2. Ryan Glenn, OL, Waukee, Iowa
3. Kyle Starcevich, QB, Runnells, (Iowa) Southeast Polk

I am torn on the possibles, I do see the possibility of losing Bibbs and Wimbely and maybe a grade issues Tribune, Hodge, or possible Lanning (from what I have heard could have some get in the door issues). Don't forget about Brisly Estime, and Demetrius Cherry. Shortridge committed to Louisville yesterday....

Maybe another school's de-commit after a coaching change is available?
