Also brilliant piece of work, more talent equals more wins, like, WOW genius.
I just thought that the raining heisman trophy winner deserved a point of emphasis on stars point. Read my post above for my general thoughts. I wasn't correcting your grammar. I was making an emphasis that I was not exaggerating. Nothing wrong with a blue collar team.
I thought the whole point of this thread was you pointing out (so incredibly wisely) that stars don't matter and are not correlated to talent? Because you are contradicting yourself if you agree that a recruiting class more highly ranked would be better for ISU and also said that recruiting rankings don't matter.

Obviously they have done that now as this past month may be the best recruiting month in ISU history.
My issue is with people cherrypicking low rated players and using it as justification to say the rankings are worth nothing. They are worth something. Every time a recruit who is a 5.5 or lower commits, there is a overwhelming response of people making fun of the stars and rankings and posting Jake Knott's rivals profile to justify the signing. Then when Campos and Lazard commit the stars are all anyone can talk about. I support CPR and co in every recruit they sign, I would just like to see them keep improving and getting guys other schools want as well as the unheralded guys that they believe in and want to develop. You need both of those to compete for championships.
My issue is also with people bring it up over and over and over. It happens in every single thread about a recruit committing. Every person who criticizes the star system thinks they are some knight in shining armor who is coming up with some extremely original and helpful thought. Well, it has been said 100 times and most people understand it already. You don't have to be highly rated to be good.
It's like telling an NFL team not to spend a first round draft pick on a QB because the Patriots got Tom Brady in the 7th round. Sure the underdog wins and if your staff can pick out gems it is great and almost essential to winning, but you still need to be able to get that highly rated talent every once in a while. I hear ya. I'm hopeful that Rhoads and company are headed in the direction of acquiring more of the highly rated players too.

Re: For those worried about recruiting stars....
I remember his recruitment. Out of all the QBs ISU had offered, I liked him best with SR second. ISU was actually in the lead for awhile before Oregon came through with an offer. He committed to Oregon, but decommitted when ATM offered late. I think that they lost a committment from another kid and stole Manziel shortly after. I just remember thinking that he would be a perfect fit for ISU's offense.

It sure seems that they've ramped up recruiting lately. Just gotta keep it going and develop the underated guys they get.

I've watched A LOT of film this year, epecially on kids from Texas. Probably more than is good for my well being!!! What I've noticed is that most of our 2 star guys are no less developed than most of their 3 star counter parts. The difference between a 2 star guy grading in at 5.4 and a three star kid grading in at 5.5-5.6 is so minimal in most cases that one has to wonder what the full set of criteria is that is used to grade these guys. I'm not of the opinion that Rivals, 247 and ESPN rating systems are irrelevant and useless but they really need to be kept in perspective.
