When Big 12 expands, if ISU is thrown in with Eastern schools do we mind?
I'm curious what the fans think about when the Big 12 someday does expand whether its 12, 14 or 16 it seems like in a lot of other threads on other message boards we are a team that gets put in a division with Eastern/Southern teams addded.
What do Cyclone fans think of this? Are we bothered if all of the other Texas schools are in a separate division/pod? Do we mind as much if a FSU & Miami combo were added so we had exposure in Florida?
After last year, I think first and foremost we are glad we have a spot in a BCS conference and may not be able to be too choosy about the details(we probably are on the low end of the totem pole when it comes to having a say), but if ISU has much say is it bad to be separated from the Texas schools and play them less than others? Or does it make another division more winnable since it probably doesn't include Texas & OU?

I think that most people who post about expansion and realignment have no idea what the hell they are taking about and are incapable of discerning between made up rumors and actual information.

ISU's main problem is it doesn't have enough TV sets. It's positives are they have been "big" since day one, they have a great travelling fan base, and they are getting better. It seems, however, that these changes don't care about tradition or fan base, only TV sets. With that said, I'd rather see us go after some more nothern or midwestern teams. Adding a FL school doesn't help us personally. When we lost NU and Mizzou we lost two locations that were easy to get to. My fear is if we go too far south or southeast we push ourselves further away from the geographic middle and suddenly we become the outlier rather than a valuable location.

Iowa State will go to whatever division it's told and it will like it. If it were just to 12, it doesnt matter a whole lot with the 9 game schedule. We'd still only miss 2 teams in the other division a year. Get a guaranteed game so we still play at least one of the kansas teams every year and i'm good with it.

More conjecture about conjecture, eh?

I for one would be ******. TCU should be the one to go.
I would argue that ISU is the 4th most valuable property the Big 12 has right now, as we deliver 3 million TV's on our own that are not shared with another conference school. TCU, TTU, and Baylor give you nothing that you don't already have with Texas. OSU gives you nothing that you don't already have with OU. KSU gives you nothing that you don't already have with KU. And West Virginia only has 2 million people that are on an island.
In addition, we are an AAU school, and do well in the directors cup every year.
I think ISU has more clout in the Big 12 than people give us credit for.

Florida or Texas- does it matter? I suppose our brand has been building in Texas longer, but the roster numbers from each state have been close. Playing in the same division with two of the three premier Florida schools (plus other regional flagships) while still a member of imo a Texas based conference would be fantastic for recruiting.
The more important thing is to have KU in our division.

I would be disappointed if we lost the long-time matchups against KU, KSU, OU, OSU - the old Big 8 teams. I like the new game against WVU.

Here's what I think should happen:
East:
Iowa State
Iowa
Ohio State
Notre Dame
Kansas State
Nebraska
West:
Texas
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
USC
West Virginia
Oregon
Here's my planning behind all of this: Get Iowa, Ohio State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, USC, and Oregon to commit to the Big XII. Then, kick out Kansas, Baylor, Texas Tech, and TCU because no one cares about them.
I bet you are wondering why West Virginia is a part of the West division, being the farthest East school in this mess? It's because they are stupid and called themselves West Virginia and couldn't come up with their own state name. Plus, it will be less confusing for the Nebraska, Iowa, and West Virginia fan bases.

Don't care but it would be good for the league to split up the Texahoma schools IMO so I like a zipper model.

Basically on the right track, if there did happen to be expansion and a return to divisions — put old Big 8 in one division, along with some of the new teams (geography and # of teams might determine which division gets WVa, but probably "North").
UT & OU would be split, but they'll always play rivalry game, and could play in title game (similar to how U-M and Ohio State were divided in New Big Ten)

Re: When Big 12 expands, if ISU is thrown in with Eastern schools do we mind?
Just hope we are still in the Big 12 when it expands. We have had a great run the past two or three years, but I still feel as if we are an unwanted outlier in our own conference. The view from the outside on ISU is not the same as from in the state of Iowa. I guess that is what it is like being an Iowa St fan...always expect the worst
