Seriously, we are running play action plays when we're down 14 with under 3 minutes left in the game? Hey Mess... do you even understand what a play action play is? Why do you think Tulsa would think we might hand the ball off in this situation? You are clueless.
And hey, to top it all off, Steele ends his final 2 drives as an ISU QB with an INT and a fumble. Unreal. We couldn't have beaten Ames High School today with how we showed up to play.
Boy, I agree. The run option hasn't worked well, like, ever. Well, the Tech game last year. I just don't like it as a style. How many times do you see the quarterback staring down the end, as he gives it to the running back, who gets stopped at the line of scrimmage?
I think it really comes down to the offensive line. If you're leaving one guy unblocked to read off of, then you darn well better block all the other defenders ... especially since now you have a numerical advantage of blockers. Our O-line just can't do the job.
And the tackling today - criminey sakes, that's the worst tackling I've ever seen. Ever. In the history of football. Jevohn Miller, today you stunk. Did you see him whiff on the tackle on the long run Tulsa had in the third quarter? He played it right, filled the hole, then let the guy run right past him. And of course, the safeties were playing their coverage and couldn't back him up.
Block. And. Tackle. That's how you win football games. Fail to do both, and you will lose. That's the story, right there.
I agree. Good offensive plays, no matter what the scheme is, start with good offensive line play and our offensive line has sucked every years since early 2000's. We WILL NOT get any better until we can improve our offensive line play. And the defense is always going to look bad at the end of the season unless our offense improves A LOT. Our defense is getting beat up too much during the season to be very effective at the end of the season.
