3rd down blitz

Hey mess, like every other team we have faced, Tulsa is blitzing on 3rd down. Wake up and call a screen pass or quick slant, or another easy audible. Thats all. Let's go cyclones!

Move Mess back to WR coach, get rid of Sturdy, and hire a real spread coordinator.

I hate watching them blitz on 3rd down and 8 and throwing the ball twenty yards down the field when there is a wide open receiver standing on the first down marker.

Although I swear 9 times out of ten when we do dump it off quick, the safety valve gets stopped with an arm tackle at the line of scrimmage.

We looked totally unprepared for the blitz. Wally talked pregame about how they worked on this. Was Sam just not ready? I liked how SJ just rolled past the Tulsa D-lineman, but then he infortunately turned back into Steele. Could have the coaching staff coached Sam to roll past them as well, or does he not have the speed to do it?

When we think we have a qb (Austin, Jared, SJ, now SR) , we quit running them and hand off to our scatbacks most of the time. Maybe with three qbs, we should begin to run them like sacrificial lambs. Our scatbacks have been arm tackled all year.

Sturdy should be the next OC. His offense at WSU was 12th in the nation with a terrible OLine and a 3rd string QB starting 4-5 games.

It is obvious that Messingham is in far over his head. Once again, we did well with the scripted plays at the beginning. Then when he was calling plays, it all went to hell.
