Re: Paul Rhoads true colors beginning to shine through
I thought the lack of a running game really hurt the offense. Look at the rushing stats and thats a good clue as to who won the game. Defense is another story. We obviously are not the same team who played Tulsa in september, injuries have taken the toll defensively. Hurricanes wanted it more. It is what it is. No need to burn down the house cause the roof leaks. Fix the problems and move on to 2013. Hard to get up for a bowl game against a non BCS team you already beat by DD 3 months ago.

That was the difference this season between 6-7 (yawn) and something like 8-5.
The only teams ISU beat were (1) bad offensive teams (2) defenses that couldn't defend the pass (3) TCU (4) Division I-AA
Tulsa was a "wash."

It was so painful to watch this team fold today but you have to think that in a conference with 9 out of 10 bowl teams this is not so bad. Only three teams that they played all year didn't go to a bowl and Iowa just simpl wet the bed this year at the end of the season. I was very upset after the game but now upon reflection I see a lot of promise. I also don't understand why there is a QB controversy. Richardson did not have a bad day. Our team had a bad day. Hells Bells Im still waiting to get to the NEXT LEVEL....Whats cpr's timetable for that?

Re: Paul Rhoads true colors beginning to shine through
The hook and ladder pass play was it for me.. Seeing that we had to run a trick play to try to even pick up a first down was all I needed to see. Pathetic play calling.

Re: Paul Rhoads true colors beginning to shine through
Wow some (OP and a few others) are starting to sound like the fans of that school to the east of ISU.
However, what does concern me about the coaching is that ISU started out so good, fell apart, and then was obviously totally inept at making (or even trying) the necessary adjustments. In the end, it comes across as ISU being totally UNPREPARED for an opponent that they had played before in the same year, and for which they had 15 extra practices and 3 weeks to prepare.
Not that there was necessarily a solution on the bench, but I don't think I will ever understand why SR was allowed to start the 2nd half, given how ineffective he was in the 2nd quarter.......plus the fact that by then the coaches had to know that his illness was having an impact on him. To start the 2nd half.....ISU had to come out strong...both defensively and offensively. How are you going to do that with a sick qb? I don't get that thinking.

I understand Rhoads not pulling Sam earlier in the game. He has played three quarterbacks this year which is never a good sign. If you start to yank guys too often then all of them begin to have confidence problems.

Pathetic play calling. Yep... with over 10 minutes left in the game, Rhoads had to resort to the desperation of making them re-kick instead of taking the ball at the 35 because he knew our offense wasn't going to be able to move it. And then shortly after that, we attempt a hook and ladder play. Total desperation.
The game was nowhere out of reach yet at that point and there were over 10 minutes left. But Rhoads knew at that point that there was NO way our offense was going to be able to move the ball without gimmicks. That's how sad and pathetic it really was folks.
You would think that Rhoads might make a change at OC after looking that bad on national TV? We shall see?

Re: Paul Rhoads true colors beginning to shine through
Our debacle yesterday on National TV on offense is all CPR needs to know and make the change that is needed, but will he be aggressive enough to do so, I sure as hell hope so. I just want to take a minute and say thank you seniors I hope life after college is successful for all of you, I appreciate your hard work and dedication to Iowa State.

Fans are starting to realize what some of us have known for awhile: Good guy. Good man. Average coach. His record speaks for itself.

How many said this last year after a 14 point loss on National TV?

He only had one 9 win season and four 7 win seasons. He never had a breakthrough win. His team never were close to getting an upset. He won the games he should have and lost, many of them bad, against teams that were better.

We certainly have challenges in the off season and I still look forward to next fall. **This is my opinion and only an opinion. -

We won't see more than 7 wins until about 2015. At that point it could proceed to 9- and 10-win territory. IF that happens, patience is worth it. Along the way, we have to embrace high points and enjoy being non-terrible, apparently.
