Kirby getting some NFL draft love
Saw espn put him as the no.1 punter for the junior class. Looking ahead to the Big 12's 2013 draft - Big 12 Blog - ESPN
Obviously still plenty of time until next year's draft, but thought it was cool for him to get some recognition for what he is able to do week in and week out. Guy is a magician as far as I'm concerned with getting the ball to do what he can.

No, I take it more as him just trying to get out ahead and giving people something to think about for next year's draft already. There is no way any punter/kicker would ever leave early for the draft, seeing as they more than likely wouldn't get drafted anyway but instead signed on as a FA.

Re: Kirby getting some NFL draft love
Love Kirby, he's usually automatic & a huge asset for us. Anyone else think he wasn't punting like his usual self in the bowl game?

Isn't LSU's punter (a junior) leaving early for the draft this year?

Bad conditions combined with trying to not give #22 a return makes for an illusion of a bad punt when in fact he punted exactly like they game planned for.
There's more to punting than just kicking it as far and high as you can, we most always directional kick to minimize the chance of a return.

Re: Kirby getting some NFL draft love
Kirby Van der Kamp punts footballs. Well.
"He is the toughest I have ever been around, physically and mentally," Burnham said. "You can beat him down but you’re not going to beat him out. He’s got the mindset of, ‘If you’re going to get me out of this game, you’re going to have to kill me.’ That’s about where he is."
-Wally Burnham on Jake Knott -
Re: Kirby getting some NFL draft love
I heard the NFL scouts were a little leery of Van Der Kamp, they are afraid that the tread is getting worn off his tires with the Cyclone offense's inability to get a first down.
