does jack t stadium suck for game viewing?
Just curious what you all think about viewing a game at trice. the only reason i bring this up is because i came away really impressed with the liberty bowl. i was a season ticket holder at isu from 2000-2004 and have been to kinnick, chiefs stadium, broncos stadium, browns stadium, and reliant stadium in houston. some of these have been a long time ago so perhaps my memory has skewed, but watching isu wv this season sucked compared to watching a game at most all of these stadiums. i had nearly identical seats for WV and against Tulsa (liberty bowl). i sat 50 yard line middle of the upper half of the stadium. liberty bowl viewing was WAY better imo.
it seems no matter where you sit at the jack it feels like you are a mile away. even being a student 20 rows deep in the lower portion feels like you are a mile away.
how do you think jack t. rates compared to other stadiums?
Re: does jack t stadium suck for game viewing?
Only seats that suck at JTS are lower level corners.
Re: does jack t stadium suck for game viewing?
My dad came to the Baylor game and we got tickets behind the end zone opposite the band. There were great and terrible all at the same time. You cant beat being that close, but once they crossed their 35, you couldnt see it and had to watch the jumbotron.
Re: does jack t stadium suck for game viewing?
The offense looks horrible there.
Re: does jack t stadium suck for game viewing?
I've been to a lot of different stadiums, and have never found JTS to be any further from the action.
Re: does jack t stadium suck for game viewing?
I have sat at the 10 yard line and about 20 rows back every game in the student section and have never had a problem..... Usually if it gets down to the other side I watch the screen, but you can still see what's going on.... No different than the Liberty Bowl IMO.
Re: does jack t stadium suck for game viewing?
Stands could definitely be steeper. Design flaw there. Seems fine otherwise. I've got no reason to develop a negative opinion about it.
I remember as a kid sitting in the endzone at DKR

Not THAT was a mile away.
Re: does jack t stadium suck for game viewing?
Yes, the stands could be steeper. You would feel more on top of the action if they were, the stadium would also look larger with steeper stands as well. However, that is something that can't be changed unless we build an entirely new stadium.
I think the best seats in the house are between the 40's in the upper deck, within the first 10 rows or so. With the worst being the lower corners. (not counting the hillsides because those are bad)
Re: does jack t stadium suck for game viewing?
ISU has a bad "empty stadium" feel to it. I know this is hard to quantify, but in those late year games when the students might be gone to Thanksgiving (WV this year) or the weather sucks, the empty upper deck corners really stand out. I notice it, you notice it, the coaches notice it, the players notice it and play accordingly--in my theory. I don't know what the answer is, and heck, even in Mac's last few years we did outstanding jobs of getting full stadiums. Those late games just feel wierd looking at all those empty seats in the upper deck corners. There is something to be said for having an appropriately sized venue for a wedding, a party, a bar mitzvah, or a college football game. Too much empty space, and the vibe is that it is not working. I think Jamie has some options to fix this or at least address it.

The only corner that was open during the WVU game was the student section if I remember correctly. The only reason that wasn't full was because it was break and colder than balls. The only thing Jamie has to address on attendance is to expand seating IMO.

The corner problem has hardly been a problem the last 2 to 3 years... Minus the WVU game this year with the students gone.
OH and SEZ!!!!!!!
oh wait wrong thread.
Re: does jack t stadium suck for game viewing?
This was my first year watching a game not in the student section, and our tickets were very high up in the stands. I was expecting it to be disappointing, but it felt super close and was a great experience. Nothing like sitting high up in an NFL stadium. <3 Jack Trice.

i'm always the first to call myself out on being a negative nancy (just look at my avatar), but i guess i have just never been to a stadium where i said to myself "wow, JTS is way better than this". I generally find the opposite and i just found the liberty bowl be to very enjoyable (except for the game itself of course).
so...what stadiums have you been to that suck compared to JTS?
