You know why several of ISU's, as well as other BCS conference schools', players from Texas have 2*? Because there are 160,000 HS players in Texas alone, to evaluate. I've said it before and I'll say it again. And I'm generalizing when I say this, but I would more often than not take a 2* football player from Texas than a 3* from almost anywhere other than Fla, GA, LA, OH and perhaps a couple other states.
I've seen Barnes play and I would take him over some area DBs that are going to Texas, Oklahoma State, Baylor. These are mid 3 star guys who were fortunate enough to get noticed early in HS and were tracked throughout.
Not quite sure why so many posters seem so butt hurt over his de-commit. He has an opportunity to play close to home, for a program that is pretty good and play sooner rather than later. He is a kid and until you go through the recruiting process yourself or have a kid go through the process, you don't **** about it...that I can guarantee. Cut the kid some slack and wish him well wherever he ends up. So I take it you're a college level recruiter or NFL scout? Because if you're not, then your opinion doesn't mean any more than mine tough guy.

I see nothing wrong with that post by jbhtexas. If Paul Rhoads never gets over 6 or 7 wins, he won't be here forever. He needs to break out and it probably needs to happen in the next two years or so or fans will be restless. I also don't see how presenting the facts is negative. He has to break through and do it soon.
Like tre said, it was there this year. We didn't get it done. Love the guy. He needs to get those wins in order to keep things moving, or jump start things moving. Nobody wants .500 forever.

The only difference between us in regards to Barnes is that I've actually seen the guy play and can make an evaluation of him based on that....as opposed to a computer screen that gives some specs on the kid, and out dated ones at that perhaps.
Let me ask you a question. Have you ever been recruited or have a kid that has been recruited? Just curious.
And to be honest, I can hold my own, but I'm not really a tough guy. But thanks.

Gibbs just recently joined Skip Holtz' staff in the same capacity.
Gibbs recruited well in Houston while a DC at Auburn and Minnesota. Another Houston tie is, he last coached in the NFL as the Houston Texans' secondary coach in 2010.

It's actually gone from maybe their right, to stupid, to really stupid, to actually hilarious now. Remember how Tiller was the guy who was going to be better than Arnaud? How about Barnett, Oh wait, we went out and picked up Super Man Steele, oh wait, Barnett must still be better because he's the back-up still. Then Richardson, hell, we haven't even given this guy a legitimate shot at the starting job and we are already building a list of better guys based on them being the back-ups. Mark my words, if Grant Rohach starts next year, Richardson will once again become the greatest QB to ever play at ISU and no one will understand why he isn't starting.

People LOVE the unknown when it comes to backup QBs. The only difference is every single QB you listed pretty much sucked overall. AA was a great leader, but average in the terms of the Big 12 conference even, let alone the country. And then everyone else up to Richardson has proven themselves to be bad. Richardson and Rohach were impressive as recruits and I think that combined with our QBs sucking and the backup QB effect is why people are so high on them.
"He is the toughest I have ever been around, physically and mentally," Burnham said. "You can beat him down but you’re not going to beat him out. He’s got the mindset of, ‘If you’re going to get me out of this game, you’re going to have to kill me.’ That’s about where he is."

I agree with you.
I remember going through the rectruiting process and a lot of factors went into my decision and at the end of the day, it was staying close to home that was the tipping point in my final decision on where i played.
Good luck to him at Houston, hope he does well and enjoys being close to home.

Great post... its hilarious how the backup is always the best quarterback. And if a kid is redshirting? Then there is no question he is better than all of the upperclassmen! I think this may be a reaction to having so many years of poor to average QB play.

I wouldn't even call our recent QB's average.

All of that lack of success isn't solely a function of the quarterback. Even with Seneca, he was spending most of his time running for his life--and his receivers, though competent, were mostly walkon caliber. CPR has been slowly upgrading the talent across the board, not just with successively better QB's. Those guys are going to start showing up on the field, and whoever is the QB won't have such a load solely on his shoulders any longer.

It's hard to be a successful QB when you don't know the routes you are throwing. Hell it was rumored Richardson would have started this year if he knew the offense better, and that's even after a RS year.
It was also rumored Rohach is the best passer on the team. Just depends on what Rhoads/Mess want from the QB next year, a pocket passer or a little more moble guy who allegedly can't pass as well.
