I think the most relevant stats are current coaches. That's KF against ISU and Rhoads against Iowa.
If that's what he meant then yes, it's right on.

Yeah. Wish we played in the big10.

What was Kurt's record after 4 years?

    Re: Jay Scheel to Iowa

Impressive: Paul Rhoads' first year win total at a school that is used to winning 2 games in a coach's first year.
Impressive: Going to a bowl game 3/4 times in his first 4 years as head coach at ISU
Impressive: Doing all of this against at least 3 top 5 schedules in the nation.

Not impressive: ISU hasn't taken the next step as quickly as Baylor, OSU, Texas Tech, ect have previously done in their rebuilding moves
Not impressive: 1-2 bowl record, with two really bad showings
Not impressive: Three bowl games, but the minimum amount of wins each season to get to a bowl game with 6-6 records.

Basically, Rhoads has an outrageously high floor for wins as a coach at ISU, but an average ceiling so far. Hopefully time is all he needs to raise that ceiling, and the new improvements to the program in stadium atmosphere, scoreboard, and the football only facility help to push it up as high as possible.

I don't think 6 wins is acceptable forever, but he still has 2 more years for me before I start to legitimately question if he can take the next step.
"He is the toughest I have ever been around, physically and mentally," Burnham said. "You can beat him down but you’re not going to beat him out. He’s got the mindset of, ‘If you’re going to get me out of this game, you’re going to have to kill me.’ That’s about where he is."
    -Wally Burnham on Jake Knott

This goes far before Hayden. Iowa was God Awful for 20 years plus and the fans stayed there. The Hoks are just a team that a majority of the state has always rooted for. This school holds or held the record for the most consecutive losing seasons and still held on to their fanbase. I dont know that we can ever get a bigger base than what EIU has.

Gonzo you are a typical Hawk fan, living in the past, the glory days of KF are long gone, you bring up the last 10 years because it serves your purpose, I'll bring up the last 15 in which ISU has 9 wins and UI has 6. ISU has a 2 game winning streak currently with a good chance of it extended next year.

Aren't you the guy bragging about the undergrad programs at UofI? Which begs me to ask the question, which one of them is your degree in? Kirkwood to my knowledge isn't affiliated with the Uof I and therefore doesn't count.

So I'm living in the past by bringing up the last 10 years, and then you extend it to the last 15. Nice logic.

Point is Iowa/ISU has become a great rivalry. Glory days of KF may be long gone, I'll grant you that. We'll see. Next year will probably be a dogfight, like the last few.

Not sure what you mean about bragging about Iowa undergrad programs. All I've ever said on that is that ISU excels in certain academic fields at the undergrad level, and Iowa excels at others. If I want to be a veterinarian, graphic designer, or an engineer, I'm going to ISU. If I want to go into business, the arts, law, communications, I'll go to Iowa. And yes, my degree is from Iowa.

This is not true, when the series renewed the Des Moines register did a survey. The result was more Clone fans than hawks.

The thing is, their families and parents were heavily Iowa fans, so the real shift won't really happen for a good amount of years, unless something drastic happens.
Will Winning the national championship next year should be drastic enough for us?? Cause that's in the bag

Any reason you listed 16 years if you wanted a 15 year span?

    I think it is plausible for a couple reasons;

    1. It's the Rag and not an eastern paper.

    2. 1977 (series resumes iirc) is 19 seasons removed from Iowa's last bowl (1959 Rose win). Also, ISU had been to bowls in 71 and 72 and Bruce put them in the Peach Bowl that year ('77). Maybe ISU piggybacked off of the NU and OU success of the '70's and was truly more popular at this time? It's not that hard to believe that Pitt was more popular than PSU for those couple years when Majors was there and won an NC.

Regardless, Fry completely and totally destroyed any momentum Majors and Bruce had built with the help of inept ISU head coaches and ADs.

    Re: Jay Scheel to Iowa

You still hear fans talk about riding the train across Iowa to get to Iowa games, and they told it to their kids and grandkids. Nevermind if the games or team were any good, they had a good time. We need to keep the experience of games and tailgating to get the fans.
