The end of the Iowa/Iowa State game?
B1G to consider 9 or 10-game league schedules @ESPN_BigTen reports B1G ADs weigh number of league games - Big Ten Blog - ESPN
This would be a teetering point for the series in my opinion.

Good. We gain nothing from playing them... We have everything to lose and nothing to gain. -
Re: The end of the Iowa/Iowa State game?
especially if they are scared. one good way to look good when you are having trouble competing on the field against better conferences is just not to play them.

Re: The end of the Iowa/Iowa State game?
Iowa State has been making it work with 9 conference games, don't see why the UofI couldn't. If they go to 10 (which I doubt) I could see the series ending

Wouldn't be surprised. Look at that 4-8 record. It's their Super Bowl after all.

Re: The end of the Iowa/Iowa State game?
the b1g needs more conference games so they can get more teams to bowls... the OOC is what really kills them in regards to 6 win seasons

IMO unfortunately without playing Iowa we don't have a rival game. I would like to keep playing them and keep beating them!!!
If you take away first base, they'll just go find a new ballpark to play in. -

I say drop Iowa and add a tougher game on the schedule like Central Michigan or something.

I would hate to see the game go away, although I doubt it will.

Re: The end of the Iowa/Iowa State game?
I don't want to see the game go away. As much as it would eleviate some pain in all of our lives, it is what college football is all about.
I expect that an 18 or 20 team Big Ten will officially kill it though.
The campaign starts now. November 6, 2012. -
Re: The end of the Iowa/Iowa State game?
It's not going away. As long as there is at least 1 OOC game, this game will be played.

Re: The end of the Iowa/Iowa State game?
If the Big 10 goes to 9 conference games, it could be tricky.
IIRC, Iowa is a school that plays 7 home games every year.
To play Iowa State along with a 9 game conference schedule, and maintain 7 home games, they would never be able to schedule any other non-conference away games. They'd play an FCS school and a MAC school at home every year.
I doubt this is a dealbreaker, but I can think of some other BCS schools that Iowa has scheduled home-and-homes with over the past few years (Pittsburgh, Arizona State) and those would go away.
If the B1G goes to 10 conference games, I'm guessing it would turn into an every-other-year game with each school hosting once every four seasons.

Re: The end of the Iowa/Iowa State game?
I like this. I disagree it will help the BigTen get more teams into bowls. teams like Minny who thrive on getting 4 easy non conference wins and 2 conference wins will be exposed.
Make sure you don't call the charge. But make sure you call the foul on the scrum.... -
Re: The end of the Iowa/Iowa State game?
If it goes ten, UI will play UNI and No Illinois. Wait, cancel Northern Illinois since they are a BCS team.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.
