Iowa State's Worst Recruits
The worst-rated recruits by Rivals for our football team each year (by Rivals rating)
2013: LB Brian Mills (5.2)
2012: K Cole Netten/DB TJ Mutcherson (5.3)
2011: DT Henry Simon/TE Jamison Lalk (5.2)
2010: DE Nick Kron (5.1)
2009: DB Jeremy Reeves (5.1)
2008: K Grant Mahoney/TE Kurt Hammerschmidt (4.9)
2007: TE Collin Franklin/OL James Carpenter (5.0)
2006: LB Matt Leaders/LS Matt Purvis (4.9)
2005: K Chris Mahoski (4.9)
2004: DE Collins Eboh/WR Michael Main/OL Joe Vanstrom (4.9)
Thought it was interesting, especially since 2007, just how many of these guys turned out to be contributors. 2007, in particular, seemed to be a good year.

Re: Iowa State's Worst Recruits
Not bad for a "worst recruits" list. I'll take a Jeremy Reeves or a Collin Franklin in every class.

Re: Iowa State's Worst Recruits
I assume Reeves's low rating was almost completely attributed to his height. If I remember correctly, Mack Brown told Reeves he would offer him but he was too short.

Re: Iowa State's Worst Recruits
Lol oooh Michael Main. I knew that kid. Was pretty cocky going into fall camp and got dominated by the workouts.

Re: Iowa State's Worst Recruits
Just so that we're clear on this, ISU's worst FB recruit EVER would be Levin White. And in this case, ratings mean nothing.
Still, nice list.Thanks!

Joe Vanstrom could wave a towel with the best of them.

Re: Iowa State's Worst Recruits
So about half of them actually did suck. Some of them were pretty good though.
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

OP was much better than I expected, clicking before letting the preview appear.
I'd take a Collin Franklin, Jeremy Reeves, and pre-headcase Grant Mahoney any year. Those 2010 and later are TBD, but I'm hopeful.

Re: Iowa State's Worst Recruits
he didn't do anything for us but James Carpenter turned out to be pretty good

Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Iowa State's Worst Recruits
He did pretty good on special teams! He was an excellent towel waiver.

Re: Iowa State's Worst Recruits
It seems like we typically have problems with the players about 5 to 10 from the top..

Re: Iowa State's Worst Recruits
James Carpenter was a first round pick. Too bad he couldn't make grades and make it to campus.
