I looked back through those threads and dont see a ton of bashing.
I dont get into the recruiting thing much, but are people not supposed to be honest in their assessments for fear that a recruit wont come here if we're not all fake-gushing about him?
Everyone 'trusts the staff' as CPR was talking about last night. That doesnt mean that people cant have their honest opinions (and there is a difference between that and bashing a recruit)
Any recruit or current athlete that gets all butt hurt about something some anonymous internet posters says might not be tough enough for college athletics or maybe even being an employee in the real world. If they think someone saying something negative about them on the internet is the worst thing in the world than they have lead a pretty charmed and sheltered life.
Heck I like our guy and hope he is successful but for the Coach to even casually call out ISU fans is ridiculous. ISU fans turn out in droves and travel like crazy to watch a team finish 6-7. We go crazy for big wins like OSU and let the disappointing losses roll off our backs like water off a duck. It would be impossible for any other middling Division I team to have better fans.
This upcoming generation gets ribbons and trophies for finishing last. They have been coddled and given everything. Never were told no and they are growing up as wimps because nobody was allowed to hurt their tender, protected feelings. That is the real issue here, not message posters.
The question I still ask is this. What happens when a recruit has the same situation. 2 years down the road, or even next year, he has a bad game and people come on here and bash him. What happens when people boo him at the stadium or ask for his replacement instead.?Is he just going to put up his cleats and walk away from the program?
I'm going to say again that I don't support bashing a recruit. I don't even look at the recruit pages and probably will never look at them except if it's a big sign. We are an amazing fan base, just look at what we did in Memphis. I came in as a freshman and was amazed to see a great crowd for the NDSU game after going 2-10 the season before. It's a little ridiculous to me someone would decommitt because of a couple of posts from some ******* fans.
Maybe the poor kid just took the starzzz and offerz crowd seriously.
