Time for a change
Listening to Rhoads talk about Tribune's verbal switch to Indiana because of negative fan reaction should be a wake up call around here. That's embarrassing. This board is littered with criticism from more than a few "fans" who feel the need to publicly rag on a kid who's made the decision to come to Ames.
Rhoads and his staff have taken the time and effort to spot these kids and extend an offer. Show them the respect they deserve. Better yet, treat them like you'd want your own son/daughter to be treated.

In today's age, these kids better get used to it. Social media and message boards are full of idiots. You can step up on your soapbox all you want and try to stop it, which many have done, but you will never succeed.

Re: Time for a change
Because he wouldn't find that **** in Indiana. Please, this should be one of the last things on the list. I agree that tweeting players they suck is terrible, but this message board should have no impact on a recruit.

Re: Time for a change
There is no soapbox from me. This is the first time I've heard of an ISU recruit changing his/her mind (and the head coach confirming in a university sponsored press conference on signing day no less) because of the "idiots" that you mention. That should be more than enough to raise awareness and change some behavior that should be embarrassing to anyone who follows this program.

I don't disagree with you at all, but fact of the matter is it will never change. It happens in EVERY SINGLE PROGRAM!

Re: Time for a change
That would be really sad if he made his decision based on what he saw on CF.

Re: Time for a change
i think it's more of a dealwithit.gif kind of situation.
people will always get angry over blown calls/off nights/etc... just a fact of life

Re: Time for a change
I think the point the OP is trying to convey is nobody including the coaches know which of the players they just signed are going to be the next Jake Knott or KO and which are going to be the next Sedrick Johnson. Thats not a bust on Sedrick, there are a lot of reasons why players do not continue to develop....some have been given the your the best montra so long they buy into it....
Conversely - when you have guys like Miller, Meeks, Curtis guys that are High Schoolers that forgo the remainder of their senior year to get here and get going is a sign they're going to do work.....
People do need to be careful with their comments - the negative aspects actually work against the very team your cheering for....if they like that team at all....
That said, RECRUITS please remember this: "BONJOUR" see link below.... State Farm® - State of Disbelief (French Model) - YouTube
You never know who's trolling on another teams site....they may or may not be from that fan base....in case your wondering if its true like the french model above, visit the In-State Rivals forum on this site and see how many non-isu fans use this site more then they use their own teams site!!!!

Re: Time for a change
So what's stopping hok fans from coming on here, posing as a Clone fan, & doing what you're describing?
Not a damn thing.
That, among other things, is why this "problem" will never go away.

Re: Time for a change
I actually was on a lunch walk today thinking about this...how twitter, message boards, have changed things. Many things which used to be discussed at the water cooler or over a few beers now can be done publicly (online).
I would hope players know this is what fans do. BUT, they still are people too.
If I were a coach, i don't know how I'd train/talk about this with my athletes. Obviously, staying away from this and twitter would be best, but they are people too and should be able to have twitter.

Re: Time for a change
Some of you may have heard this one time, but Jamie Pollard in an interview (maybe on KXNO?) basically said he's a person too...all those emails that were negative he does take personally. Granted, comes with his territory, but people are people.

Also, I'm surprised nobody has posted the Michael Jackson Man In The Mirror video yet.

Probably won't as he will be enrolling at Iowa State.

Re: Time for a change
I guess the way I view it is that there are a select few very vocal CF posters that find flaws in every recruit that we recruit. Unless they are a 4 or 5 star recruit people complain about them not have enough stars, or not being tall enough.
the 2% of negative posters have a tendency to dominate the discussion of every recruit. I can't remember the last time that we had a positive conversation about a recruit. Most have been negative.
