GREAT article. Answered a lot of questions I had about the line. They will be so good as upperclassmen.
"He is the toughest I have ever been around, physically and mentally," Burnham said. "You can beat him down but you’re not going to beat him out. He’s got the mindset of, ‘If you’re going to get me out of this game, you’re going to have to kill me.’ That’s about where he is."

I had high hopes for Pompey. -

Just depends on how they play out of the gates(whole team in general), we might take a step back next year but that is ONLY because of experience. Physically, talent, size, speed, and so on our team at basically every position is better.
LB might be the worst off position, but we still have some talent there. A lot if people thought Jesse Smith was irreplaceable too. I think LB and DB will always be a strong group under Rhoads and Wally.

But with little experience at DT and losing Knott/Klein, oh my, color me very nervous about our interior D next year. Hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Walter Woods, any further information about him? Did Shane B. have more to say that didn't make it into the story? I ask because, watching him during the West Virginia game, I saw him push an OL 7-8 yards deep into the WVU backfield. On that one play, he looked good. One play. . . . Will WW see the field a lot this fall, maybe as a starter?
I've liked the kid since his signing day video, a 260 pound high school linebacker who was all over the place. Knee surgery his first or second year here, iirc, no doubt delayed his emergence.

I really think Coe will start at DT for us right away

The defense has been the strength of this ISU program since CPR and Wally took over. It just so happens that this year we lose a ton of starters all over the defense.
I expect big things from these recruits and young guys but its time for the offense to hold up its end of the bargain and get ISU out of the cellar in nearly every offensive category.
We can handle some regression on defense if our offense can produce at a level that should be expected.
“It’s beyond pride. It’s a restored trust. There’s a confidence again, a passion that teeters on swagger. More than anything, (Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads) has restored the Iowa State “it” factor, the steadfast belief that it is great to be a Cyclone...the man’s enthusiasm is genuine to the core...” – columnist Sean Keeler, Des Moines Register -

It has to get done.
Specifically, I'd like an update on Shaban Dika's health. Will he be ready to go for spring ball seems like a key question to ask.
Also, it would be terrific to have an overall update on the offensive line, who's gonna play at guard for sure, who's moving to tackle for sure, who is expected to back up Tom Farniok at center, and so on. Maybe after Coach K has reviewed and evaluated his OLinemen on tape. . . .

Honestly no. The point to my interview/the story was to see how the 3 freshmen progressed this year. I didn't ask much about the others - but I will over the spring/summer.

It's probably a "We landed on the moon" moment for me, but what is happening/has happened to Pompey?
There is no doubt in my mind that Shane will more than earn his paycheck this season. I guess it's safe to say that I'm in the 'concerned' camp with this group as we head into 2013.

Well, we only landed on the moon yesterday, so I will let it slide. http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/...gram.htmlThere (Rhoads: Pompey, Daniels no longer with the program) have been a lot of thread popping up today that buried it.

To me it looks like we will have a 6-man rotation on the inside with Woods, Coe and Cousins at NT and Jensen, Bevins and Aka at DT. The great thing is I think a lot of these younger guys have gotten experience at both DE and DT that they will be able to switch on the line, stunt, etc. with the DE's to further confuse the OL and get in the backfield. Looks ok to me, and with Shane I trust they'll play to a sufficient level.
Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town' -

Young, old, experienced, or inexperienced I am not worried about the defense. The offense however...
