Re: New committment: Chase Harper
Having never personally met anyone on our coaching staff.....what do you guys think recruits and there families come away feeling after meeting with Coach Chizik and his staff? What is Chizik's message beyond the "chance for PT" schpeel. I've heard some coaches like Charlie Weiss/Steve Alford strikeout with big recruits because all they talk about is themselves.......I just wonder what Chizik is like compared to, say McCarney?

Re: New committment: Chase Harper
if you talk to any of the guys, They think that Chizik is " a cool dude " He knows what the guys like and he has a cool personality. He is a guy you would love to sit down and have a beer with " hopefully thats not what they are actually doing " As for the rest of the coaching staff. We have a big variety, Coach Rodgers is much like a typical midwesterner with a good looking wife, he introduces his wife to recruits when he can. Coach Bolt is a hoot and the players absolutely love the guy. Reggie Stephens was telling me a story about when he first met Bolt, Bolt had him come into his office to meet him. Bolt asked if he was ready to play some defense and Reggie said no im on the Oline, Bolt replied with a " Get the hell out of my office " with a smile on his face ofcourse. I have a couple good storys about coach bolt but they would take alot of space. Coach Fountain " has a shorter fuse than chizik" but is a smooth well brought up gentleman that knows what to say. Coach McFarland is a typical southern guy. and the other coaches are also great, Coach Shep and Coach Becton are awesome, humored but hard working. We are in good hands

Re: New committment: Chase Harper
Looks like Santa left some nice goodies for Chizik. Just read about Pfluggerville playing in the state championship down here (I'm at my winter retreat in Mission TX) in the local paper. I'm getting excited about Gene's first recruiting class!

I believe there is two Pluggerville schools. Harper and Darks didn't play on the one that went to the state championship that played Katy.

Re: New committment: Chase Harper
Chase looks like he could be the second coming of Martin Rucker from Missouri if he is able to put a few pounds on after a season with coach Shep.

An athlete at the tight end position that can not only catch the ball but also stretch the field. I think it was a weakness in last years offense, i know Catlett was a pleasant surprise, but, this guy is 6-5, 225 with a forty of 4.56....i think that was Stevie Hicks 40 in his senior season....But seriously, if you applying pressure up the middle with the TE, the safety's less likely to be waiting by the WR to either pound him or intercept the ball....they had no reason to fear the TE so they focused on the WR....it showed.....no blown coverages=no threats....
Could be an incredible offensive weapon, or, add a lil mass under shep and make him a rush end, looks to have the frame to add weight and strength without a great loss of speed.
Know he's only a 2* but, some of that i'm sure is related to his grades and status....if he qualifies, could be a great get....
I'm just worried that we have Graham (gonso), Haughton and Harper academic risks....i hope it don't come back to bite us....I'll remain optimistic, hope they're able to make it....
What happens if Graham gets his grades up, do we hold a schollie for him....that guy looked like he was ready for big 12 play, or would he not make it at a big time university academically anyhow.....UNI prospect or does he get a div. 1 schollie.....

When trying to build a program, there are some risks that must be taken. They can include anything from academics, size, speed, character, work ethic, you name it.
Given a choice, I would prefer to take an academic risk because this area can be addressed with a good support system. If a kid squeaks by to get accepted, he can be successful with a good support system. If he doesn't get in, you take the next guy on the list and move on.
The problem with the other risks is that they take up a precious spot on your roster with the continuing risk of either not contributing or embarrassing the program.

who was the sunday committ?

Re: New committment: Chase Harper
I sure like the thought of that, a big receiving threat at TE would be great for this offense.

I wish that ISU could 'strike out' like Charlie Weiss is doing at ND. They'll probably wind up with the No. 1 recruiting class.
