Am I right?

Even before last year, in Arnaud's redshirt year, we heard from people close to the previous staff that the best QB on the team was not starting. We heard some of the same sorts of things this past year. And this was not coming from fans, who always think the backup is better. This was coming from staff members, who ought to know a good QB when they see one.

I think Arnaud is similar to Freeman of K-state. Has the same big arm, the same pocket presence, but is a lot more mobile than Freeman and a lot tougher. (Freeman looks a little soft to me.)

When Arnaud went in during the K-State game, we ran about four plays before the announcing crew finally woke up and said "and now Arnaud is in the game at QB." Well, duh, he's been in for the past four plays.

But that's neither here nor there. The point I'm getting to eventually is that you could tell right away it wasn't Meyer (aside from the fact that THE NUMBERS WERE DIFFERENT! DUH, ANNOUNCERS!)

For one thing, Arnaud is bigger than Meyer. But the most striking difference, IMO, was the body language. Arnaud just looked like he was in command out there. He had a confidence about him. There was some swagger there, something I'd never seen from Meyer and this was a kid who was basically seeing his first action in a Big XII game.

For all the Arnaud doubters, I really don't see where it comes from. We've got a keeper here, if you ask me.

Having said that, I would have no problem if Bates or Tiller beat him out, because that would mean we have some very good QBs on the team.

I agree I liked what I saw from Arnaud, but not willing to hand the torch over until the first game unlike some. From what I have seen and heard, Bates has the arm, speed and swagger to be a weapon. It will be an interesting battle, and one that Bates is not willing to simply walk away from. Nice position to be in. Add to that the potential for injury for QB's and we need two that can play.

Just to clarify there is a 4th on the team, and we'll also get a couple more Iowa kids walking on at the QB position including quite possibly, the state 4A championship team's QB. We'll manage at QB without this guy.

Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town'

Don't count those guys out. A QB is a lot more than raw talent. Who knows who will step up.

Yep, it is all about who steps up as the leader of the team.

I think the original poster was just stating that Bates has more potential to contribute at positions other than quarterback. Bates could start at QB, WR, or S for us eventually if he and the staff so choose. Arnaud on the other hand, is really relegated to QB although he did play some good D in HS.

That is true for a lot of really good quarterbacks. But if he is an accurate passer his athleticism would make him a VERY special QB. Thats a big if, and he may not get it done, but I don't think anyone knows that at this point. Athletic QB's in college are a very dangerous weapon, much more so than the pros where everyone has speed.

I would think Arnaud could play Tight End or Linebacker and be very good at it.
