I know I am biased towards the Cyclones, but why wouldn't more people who would ride the pine and/or share the workload at Texas, Florida, Ohio State, etc. type of programs rather come to Iowa State and get a lot more PT, put up better #'s and still play in a BCS conference?
i guess it just might be what i would do in that situation too - if i was a 4 or 5 star recruit I would choose playing time over playing for a team with more potential talent. |

I think players are - they just haven't had a reason to come to ISU before Gene and the newfound hope. I think you saw this year with all the upsets that there is a lot of parity in CF and you don't see teams being as deep as you did a few years ago. That's not something I can prove on paper but I think it's a trend that has gone around ISU in the past and is finally starting to include us. |
A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. |

i guess it just might be what i would do in that situation too - if i was a 4 or 5 star recruit I would choose playing time over playing for a team with more potential talent. Because those 4 and 5 star HS athletes want to play in the spotlight for a big name school. Plust they believe they will be able to walk on campus and compete for playing time right away. Think about it this way. You've always been "the man" on your team through HS. Why would you think you couldn't be "the man" at the college level when everyone is telling you that you are the best player ever.

Realize that most coaches won't make big promises, but some assurances must have been given to get him to come to Ames-- something more than a permanent reserved booth at that rib joint.

The players naturally want to listen and learn from what he says because it has a certain special ring to it that other incoming players don't bring in. |
