Re: Senior Bowl Update
Hmm, I didnt realize Tuba (and Ace apparently) had such great games last weekend. I got bored watching that game after the first quarter. Can someone fill me in on why they played so great!?

Re: Senior Bowl Update
Iowa State nose guard Ahtyba Rubin is a load in the middle, easily occupying two blockers. He was initially poor in pass rushing, but proved himself coachable, learning on the fly and getting significantly better as the day progressed Draft Daddy: Blog : 2008 NFL Draft News as it Breaks: Updated Regularly -
Re: Senior Bowl Update
I don't know that Tuba will ever be a great pass rusher, but he is pretty solid inside. More than a few times he moved down the line to help make a tackle...he's fairly mobile for a big guy.
Bowen's problem is that he's pretty small to be a 4-3 LB (WAY too small to play in a 3-4) and then you question his speed if he plays SS.
Blythe I think will live or die with his combine numbers. He is fairly one-dimensional...kind of a one-trick-pony with jump balls. How valuable is that to teams?
Here's my guess:
Rubin RD4
Bowen RD6
Blythe RD7
Banks gets a FA tryout

Re: Senior Bowl Update
I did forget about Ace, so sorry. Thanks for the reminder.
So that is a possible three actually drafted players, and more free-agent pics. We havn't had that many in awhile have we.

Re: Senior Bowl Update
"Iowa State’s Ahtyba Rubin looks strong and quick. He might be a late-round pick, but he can push the pocket or get to a running back moving laterally and doesn’t give up easily."
That's the latest from Senior Bowl practices, it sounds like Rubin is representing well.

Re: Senior Bowl Update
I watched some of the senior bowl practice last night on the NFL network they said Rubin's name a couple of times. Near end one of the comments was "and rubin from Iowa State in the backfield again making a play."

Re: Senior Bowl Update
There are several guys that have made a good living clogging the middle of lines and not do anything really in the pass rush. This is were Tuba fits in perfectly for the NFL.

Re: Senior Bowl Update
A pic from Tuba at the Senior Bowl.
Here is some video of Tuba at work during South OL vs. DL http://www.rivals.com/video.asp?sect...amp&vidid=2979

Re: Senior Bowl Update
He's looked pretty good on the videos from Rivals.

Re: Senior Bowl Update
Tuba has been our best draft possibility all season. Pretty obvious with his size and speed.

Re: Senior Bowl Update
I wish we had Tuba for another year. We would be a 6 win team next year with him, possibly 7. He would be able to free up the LB's which I think is going to be a big issue for us next year.

Re: Senior Bowl Update
I have watched every single practice of the senior bowl (work from home) and Rubin was not stopped once on the 1 on 1 drills. He was going up against a center from Wake Forest quite a bit who apparently is pretty good, and Rubin dominated him. Rubin also was moving down the line and making plays on the running back in full team drills. Mayock started to give him some love on thursday.
Rubin is a perfect fit for a 3-4 team that plays a 2 gap system. I could see the Patriots drafting him in the 4th or 5th round to back up Vince Wilfork.

Re: Senior Bowl Update
Another mention of how well Tuba played in The Sporting News:
"He wowed scouts at the weigh-in, looking unusually muscular and in shape for a 321-pounder, and built on that as the week went on. Rubin showed the brute strength to control one-on-one blocks, plus he flashed good athleticism. He may have moved himself into the first round."
He was listed as the #1 player from the West team that helped themselves the most.
