I highly recommend if you are in the area to go up Thursday night for the one-on-one bit with the coaches. Got to know them and sit in on some film sessions with only a couple other coaches rather than the clinic setting.
How long have you coached at Dowling? I played for Ames High - my junior year was the game in 1997 where the final score was like 60 - 54 or something. There were over 900 total yards of offense between the two teams. We just traded scores all night until mysteriously the sprinklers came on in the third quarter. Dowling scored two times in a row and we couldn't stop them to catch up. At that time I was splitting time with a senior who ended up going to UNI on scholarship.

Dowling was a good rivalry for us, and I was disappointed that we didn't play in the regular season my senior year. Although we did play in the semi-finals (and lost 28 - 20; we had two punts blocked, both of which were converted to touchdowns. Only punt blocks all year).

I'm surprised at the lack of coaches on this board. You would never know it when reading it on Saturday nights/Sundays.
Besser-I've been at Dowling for 4 years. We got Ames in the first round of the playoffs a couple years ago and came back to beat them then. That was Arnaud's senior year and he was a man amongst boys.
Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

    Great league, but I'm biased.

Coaches can be parents of kids playing in the league or anyone that wants to coach. You need not have your coaching authorization but do need to attend at least one coaching seminar (the ISU coaching clinic is perfect!).

The league is full contact football with weight requirements for anyone that touches the ball (including the tight end). Also, blitzing, trip formations and things like that are not allowed. Special teams is not part of the league - punts worth 30 yards and the ball is spotted at the 40 after a score.

I think the coaching sign-up ends April 14th and player sign-up ends around there as well.
Last year they were short coaches on his team so I got to be the official stat girl. Why can't we have that as an option?

Here's the link: John Cooper Will Speak at ISU Football Clinic - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - Iowa State Cyclones Sports

Unfortunately it's not easy to find on Cyclones.com. The clinic runs from the evening of April 3 (Thurs) through the afternoon of April 5 (after ISU's Saturday practice). Cost is $50 per coach. The above link has a link to the registration form.
