Re: Use your "Free $$" from Gov't for Tics

Isn't this rebate money ours to begin with? I am under the impression when we do our 2008 taxes, if you get a refund for taxes paid in 2008 it will be reduced by the amount already received. I thought that happened in 2001 anyways.

I think by creating more money they mean just that. Hot off the printing press. Brand spanking new. Crisp.

I don't think it is a pre-rebate, I think it is just a wasteful check.

My wife and I have been kicking around ideas for our check and we feel we would be best served by either using it to pay off debt or sinking it into our house. Extra money to help with new windows that will make our house more efficient an increase the value down the road. Plus, by spending it on home improvements, I think we may be able to write it off.

New windows will help your value increase as well as make your energy bills lower. Might be a 2 for one on that deal.

    Otherwise pay down debt.

New windows? Each one of the windows we bought were more than the entire check. Windows are very expensive.

Unless you buy the windows and know some great family member who knows 100% how to install them. That will save you a mint! But, make sure they really know how !

That is what we did, put 2 in every 6 months until we were done. It was brutal when you added up all the costs at once.

Most of the windows dont bother me but we have two huge complicated window systems/ One in our kitched that takes up most of a wall and one in the living room that almost does the same. I cant imagine what thats going to cost. However in the end it will be worth it. All of our windows frost up really bad when its cold out. Its pathetic. I wish I could meet the folks who lived here before and tell them how much they screwed us with their laziness and cheapness.

1% of GDP is hardly monumental. It's just another small step in the wrong direction.

I'll probably save it for now, and then give it back sometime so some retired baby boomer can get it up.
