Leonard Johnson
Think he stays or moves on. There is a premium story on CR about him. Evidently he gave Chizik a soft verbal but said he was still looking when he had given his soft commit. The other guys that had their scholarships pulled gave a definite verbal and started looking later. I remember hearing that Johnson's mother was the one that wanted him to go through the full recruitment experience and not pull the trigger. Hopefully he commits to us. But I don't really have a problem for a fellow to say he is leaning but not completely committed. I am sure that the plan is for a preferred walkon like LJ Gamblin to get the schollie if a recruit like Leonard Johnson doesn't take it. And Gamblin might be a grayshirt candidate for all I know.

Re: Leonard Johnson
I'm optimistic. Supposedly has a good friend on the team and I think he really respects Chiz.

Re: Leonard Johnson
The morning of the Iowa game I rode down the elevator with Leonard Johnson at the Gateway Hotel. He seemed like I real nice and sincere guy, I hope he commits to ISU.
"I think that people are responding to someone standing up and saying this is what we want to do and let's not be afraid to go for it,'' Pollard said. "I think Iowa State has a very conservative, modest background. We never pound our chest and say `Let's do it.' It's OK to set a goal. You can't do it if you don't say what you want to do. You should be proud of it.''

Re: Leonard Johnson
I'm really hoping that he is just pleasing his momma. From what i've been reading, I think he is still leaning towards Iowa State.

Re: Leonard Johnson
I think that Chizik will be able to pull it off. He seems like he has been recruiting him the longest and that he and LJ have a descent relationship going on.
I am really glad that he is not visiting Michigan because I think that would almost seal the deal that he would be gone. But at the same time, there are lots of kids who committ to a school without taking a visit.

Re: Leonard Johnson
Leonard who? Like a lot of folks here, i am assuming a recruiting class of 0 right now.

Re: Leonard Johnson
I talked with Clones33 who said he had a very close friend on our commit list thats not definitely coming to ISU unless another head scratcher happens....
Anyhow, LJ is visiting some other schools and yes Rich Rod has contacted him, but, in the end, i hope his friendship with his fellow 2008 classmate and his connection with the Chizik coaching staff holds him here at ISU. I think him, Benton, Land, and Darks if he plays D, will be an awesome secondary for us in the future. One thing working in our favor is Chizik has a knack for making DB's better, this has to be considered by any DB recruit we go after, that he's worked with some of the best at that position and made them better. How can you argue with the contracts that Huff, Ross and Griffin signed.....
Stay LJ we respect your decision to attend ISU and realize that you could be one of those building blocks to make our program special!!!!
Edit from ISUFan22 - helping KMAC out on a clarification to his post above... Originally Posted by KMAC_ATTACK DJ, i screwed that quote all up....

That would be awesome news...i'm sick of reading about him going on this visit and that visit and how he might be tempted....i hope his friendship and manner in which we've made the commitment to him bring him to Ames - he would be an impact player possibly even year one!

Re: Leonard Johnson
You might want to edit the original post since it is 180 degrees from what you meant.

Re: Leonard Johnson
Thanks for clarifying KMAC - I was confused as to the meaning of your previous post as well.
I edited it for you, as I see you're not online at the moment (slacker ).
If you don't like what I've done, please edit it again.

Re: Leonard Johnson
Thank the lord!!! I thought that you knew something about JS possibly ditching us and I think I would have had a meltdown!!

Re: Leonard Johnson
For the record ISUFan22 - i was online - leave it online all day, can always minimize!!!!
If you want to call me slacker next wednesday - go ahead because on my work i will be slacking watching the recruiting info!!!!!!
Sorry cloneys!!!! meant no harm - by looking at JS he looks like a no non-sense kind of guy, think he would appreciate Chizik and his approach to things.
I just hope LJ sees through all the used car sales crap he will get again this weekend in morgantown and says my commit is solid....maybe its that he is 100% committed to us and he's just off enjoying visits on someone elses dime....gets to see the US for free....not bad if you can get it.....LJ, Benton and Darks all big 12 performers after Chizik and staff refine the technique!!!!!
Sorry again guys & gals!!!!!!

Re: Leonard Johnson
a little off topic.. but did any1 else see this guy?
Jordan Fields Jordan Fields - Football Recruiting
it says he is a commit to A&M but on the page with all the DBs it stil has the link for the list instead of A&M..idk im confused but i havent seen his name before
Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." -
Re: Leonard Johnson
IMO if LJ were to go somewhere else, it would be Ole Miss. He has a buddy on that team. I was worried about Michigan and USF, but WV is getting his final visit. I don't know how much of Rodriguez's staff stayed in WV, but definitely the HC is gone along with at least a few assistants. Morgantown is supposed to be cold enough this weekend...especially compared to Iowa in September (when LJ visited). I think that LJ is just taking his visits. And since we were still leading after his Miss. visit, I'm betting we are in good shape.
