Walk On

Is anyone else concerned--

about the future of free forums? Since the "staff" shut down all information on recruits, lively discussion on the free forums has come to a halt. I anticipate that, after the experience we had this year, next year's recruiting will be conducted with complete stealth. This leaves us with nothing meaningful to talk about from December until September, with the exception of two or three days surrounding the spring practice game. Bummer!

Re: Is anyone else concerned--

It may be hushed just because we are so close to signing day. There will be a lot to talk about tomorrow.

Hopefully we're excited tomorrow! If we get a suprise recruit, that will definitely give us something to talk about.

After the papers are signed you can talk about whatever you want. Actually just about everything has been allowed up to this point, very little has been filtered. I guess it comes down to what you like - a good team or talking about every possible recruit that you'll never end up seeing. I would prefer to obey the wishes of those above us that have given ample proof of why it would be best this year not to have certain prospects talked about openly. I can assure you it won't be normal going forward, it's a one-time thing and I'm sure you'll find it was best in the end.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

The other thing to consider D30 is maybe after this season with a better record and some optimism about the program some of these guys jumping off the ship wont be jumping because they see ISU is on the way up!!!! I still think that Chiz and his staff will try to keep the guys they've uncovered low key and not let other programs stumble onto a good recruit without doing their own homework and if were recruiting against other Div 1 teams for talented players we will have defections, thats just the nature of the beast. If you look on CSTV, every top notch team has lost recruits to one thing or another, including the big boys - Michigan, Ohio St, USC, Florida, Miami, Florida St, Georgia, Auburn, LSU....if these type of programs can have decommits and losses, we at ISU should definitely expect some losses until we start putting together a run like Kansas or Missous....then we will keep our recruits because they've bought into the hype!!!!

Not concerned at all...this site is always buzzing with something. And if the staff wants us to not discuss things that will benefit the program (you know, wins and all that fluffy stuff) - I'm all for it.

That would be simply awesome yet not likely.

People are too concerned with this recruit and that recruit. Trust Gene, let him take care of that. That is why he makes the big $$$. I for one am not concerned in the slightest, I could care less about recruits until they are wearing a uniform at the first game.

As long as there is a betting board there will be plenty of stuff to talk about here.

I could care less about tracking the recruiting but I do think it is pretty pointless to ask people not to discuss certain recruits, especially when they 'technically' aren't allowed to discuss them anyways... It is the kids and their friends and families putting these stories out there, so might as well let people talk about them...

I'm all in agreement with the stealth but I'm curious why you think next year would be any different than this year as far as keeping wraps on recruits?

Hopefully it's because we're winning and the staff doesn't have as hard of a time holding onto the recruits. I think if we go from 3-9 to 6-6 (with a potential bowl berth), we'll see a nice little spike in recruiting. For every W, it just makes the pitch that much more convincing.
