Re: Who can play right away?
I think Carlson will play for sure. Sed will most likely also see time.
One of the kickers that emerges will start. Most likely Guyer.
I also think a couple of the d-backs or linebackers will be special team players and play some as reserves. If I were to guess, Johnson, Ferguson, and (Land or Dark).

I think I also heard somewhere that Guyer also punts, so maybe Guyer takes punting and deep kicking while Mahoney does FGs and XPs?

Re: Who can play right away?
Remember we still have Brandtner for punts--could see 3 different kickers during games. Unless Guyer one-ups Brandtner, I don't see him getting the punting job. There was a time or two last year when punting saved us. See: End of CU game.

See where I'm going with this?

At the Mizzou game a longer Shaggy kickoff surprised the returner and he he had to back peddle fastly to about his 6 or 7 yard line to make the catch.

Brandtner is a junior this year, he was a sophomore last year.

Re: Who can play right away?
I just want the ball in the endzone on the kickoff...! Special Teams killed us last year! But Tony is a great punter! One of the better ones in the nation! I'd say top 15 at least!

Re: Who can play right away?
Doubt Sed starts, remember we still have Hamilton and Sumrall plus Wallace Franklin and Houston Jones saw plenty of time and Derron Montgomery will likely be in the mix as well if his knee is healthy along with Carlson who will likely see time as well. This class definitly gives us quality depth and competition at the WR position as well as allowing Darks to possibly be moved to saftey.

Re: Who can play right away?
i think both johnsons, t-ran, maybe haughton on DL if he switches, i think the 2 guys we NEED to redshirt are lonzie range so he can get up to like 190-195 which will make him a stud for the 4 years after that, and chase harper. if this kid get to 235-240 by the start of the next season and will 4.56 speed... monster as a d-end

Will be a sophomore this fall after a RS in '06 and backup to Purvis in '07. Also heard that Catlett did some long snapping in practices, other than that...not sure who would be in the mix.

It seems like the days of getting a touchback was the normal are over. If you can get a touchback 25% of the time (like isuno1fan said) I will be very happy!
Also, for kicks, I try not to have too high of expectations. I think inside of 20 yards should be 100% of the time, from 20-30 90%, 30-40 75%, 40-50, 60%, and if we ever make one over 50 I will call it good. In a nutshell, I want to be like "We're in the redzone, we have 3 forsure unless we turn it over", which hasn't been the case in recent years....
