More from the Quad-City Times
Almost five months after an ACL injury ended his senior football season, Ethan Tuftee still is recovering.
That didn’t prevent the Davenport Assumption offensive lineman from sealing his commitment to play for Iowa State on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-3, 285-pound Tuftee sent in his national letter of intent to the Cyclones on Wednesday morning.
“It’s one more thing I don’t have to do,” he said.
What Tuftee does have on his agenda is plenty more physical therapy to rehabilitate his knee. He suffered the injury three games into the football season last September, and Tuftee has only recently begun jogging and jumping again.
“Every day is pretty much something new,” he said. “I wish I could just play right now.”
He won’t play next fall, either, instead he’ll attend Scott Community College for a semester as an Iowa State grayshirt freshman.
Tuftee will join the Cyclones for the spring semester.

might open up one more spot....will be interesting to see if we snag someone.

Re: Tuftee To Grayshirt
Lonzie Range is doing the same thing so that opens up another spot as well

Tuftee will join the Cyclones for the spring semester. Why do I get the impression that Scott probably doesn't have quite as good a weight room as the Jacobsen Building?

It doesn't - but I think the guy's more focused on getting his knee fixed and not quite as worried about football right now. He might be missing football right now, but he won't be playing until that knee's right.
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this. -

Re: Tuftee To Grayshirt
I wouldn't count on grayshirts for Tuftee and Range just yet. There are quite a few academic risks among the commitments. Guys like Benton, Harper, Haughton, S.Johnson. None of those guys are guaranteed to make it. It will be no surprise if a few of them don't. That would open up a scholarship and allow Tuftee and/or Range to show up in August.

...and i don't think the grayshirts really have anything to do from an ability aspect or lack of schollys, it is strictly a move to help them be at full strength coming off their injuries and to not waste eligibility on recovery time.

Re: Tuftee To Grayshirt
The JC route can be a good thing. I attend ILCC part time, 6 credits cost just under $1000 and with the loan I get, I don't pay anything until I am out of school. The loan
is for $1500 and I can keep and spend the excess or send it back as a payment on
the loan.PLUS if the credits transfer English etc is alot easier than at ISU.
GO CYCLONES

Re: Tuftee To Grayshirt
If we have two grayshirts, who else are we looking to bring in? Are we looking at what extra kids make grades for late offers?

GO CYCLONES Off-topic, but are you in the flight program, there? If so, what do you think of it?

Re: Tuftee To Grayshirt
Lonzie Range can really fly. I think he could be an immediate contributor.
