Schmeling quits team

I heard from a reliable source that Schmeling has quit the team and has no intention of returning. I'm not exactly sure on the reason but it sounds like it may be a case of being burnt out. He graduates this spring I believe. That hurts but we should be fine.

That stuff happens. At least he is getting a degree. I can understand him wanting to leave, next year would be his 6th year of college and all of his classmates will be leaving also.

I'm not an expert on sports, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night

I have heard from VERY reliable sources that our redshirting Olineman might be moving past him.

Re: Schmeling quits team

Can't blame him. I was burnt out playing after 4. That's a lot of work and time to keep putting in when your heart isn't in it. There comes a point where you probably aren't going to get any better. Best of luck to Tom in his future endeavors. It would still be nice to have his attitude on the team, but I can certainly appreciate where he is coming from.

big loss

Thank you Wes Johnson for the great 2 years you gave Iowa State. Wish you could've stayed. Best of luck to you, wherever you end up.

"The one thing I really want to say is to tell the fans thank you for everything," Johnson said. "You rooted for me, you were behind me with my injury, and I really appreciated that."

theres a different sheriff in town, remember when Chizik said he would be eliminating the week links... Workouts are very intense these days in Ames, i dont blame Schmelling for being burnt out. He did good work while he was here.

He stepped up and played a lot of games in a pinch, and that's a testament to his work ethic as a little known grayshirt. Thanks Tom, all Cyclone fans appreciate the work you do and I can't imagine the effort day in and day out from these guys.

If true, this is a big loss, especially on an already thin team.

If it's true, best of luck to him! I like how unlike many other fan bases, most of us seem to understand and support him.

Definitely deserves praise for putting in a great effort and bridging the gap between the two coaching regimes. Thanks Tom!
