If Big 12 officials are not going to call holding, it seems silly not to run a spread.

I expect to see a lot more spread this year.

2 RB's in the shotgun, basically no QB.

If ISU's OC is a specialist in the spread, shouldn't we be trying to maximize his effectiveness? I'd say we are in very good shape with our spread offense receiving corps right now, but there may be seasons or games where we need to "scratch where it itches" - depending on weather, injuries, recruiting shortfalls, opposing defenses, ect..
Look at what EIU's offense had to deal with last year; and there is no doubt that many of our home games have been affected by windy conditions.
One thing I don't recall seeing for a long time is an ISU RB who actually makes a lot of plays as a receiver. If you also add in a QB who can run, our offense would be extremely hard to defend.

I feel the "spread" is going to be more and more prevelant at ISU. It is what McFarland prefers, and it allows a young, inexperienced line to gain confidence. One only has to hold thier blocks for a couple of seconds instead of 7 or 8 seconds when running traditional drop back plays. It appears that the skill positions have been upgraded in the new crop of players. This is key because the spread is contingent on players making the plays more on thier own in open space, not finding a designed whole. I will be surprised if we don't see major gains in offensive production this year.

Do you really think they are going to go blow up everything they did last season to run the spread? When every coach wants to run the ball and makes it very pubilc, they are going to run the ball 1st. McFarland want to pass like crazy and he has that in his backgound. I think we will see the same formations and such as last year but it will be more open. The spread is all over the place now, I think we will see how good of a OC McF is this next year because he will take what Chizik want, what his staff wants, what they did last year, and what he wants and put it into one, if you will, "NEW" offense that will suprise people. They know what they have to work with a bit better now and can makes changes they need. Lets not forget there will still be a young QB under center next year, so lets not get too carried away with getting too crazy of offense going right away. My guess it will be AA as QB, Bates can help out in other places on this team.

My guess is that ISU will not see a true "spread" for awhile. Chizik likes smash mouth so this will always be a part of his game, unless he sees that ISU does not have the horses to win that way.
When he talked on Marty and Miller about Jerome Tiller something caught my ear that Chizik said. Chizik mentioned how Tiller was doing the zone read very similar to what Vince Young was doing at Texas. I would like to see that at ISU more then we have in the pass. I think having a QB that can do that, using sort of a spread offense, having smash mouth in your back pocket and letting your line and RB use the stretch play really opens things up. (I am captain obvious as I mentioned pretty much every offense except the option!)

I agree with the recent posts, but I think there is a reason for the resurgence in the Kansas and Mizzou programs. It can partly be accredited to the fact that they run an offense that can nutralize the fact that not every program has the hogs to run a traditional offense. Texas and Ohio State can get a full stock of lineman every year that allows them to dictate the offense they run, smashmouth. I love 3 yards and a cloud, but the spread allows non-traditional powers to compete with less. I think there is something to be gained there.

"Perfect"? You seem to be assuming that Phillip can't pass. | | |

We ran the ball 53% of the time last year. Kansas ran 52% of the time, Missouri 47%.
If we go to the spread, what percentage of the time will we run the ball?
