Help me out people!
I can look at the roster on cyclones.com, but there is not a lot of info on there that will help me out. Who are the guys we are going to see at the DT position for the 2008 season? Who will make the biggest impact? I did not pay a ton of attention to recruiting, who could help ISU out there? (ideally, I know recruiting does not mean a lot if they are not able to handle D-1 demands)
I think this is the position that worries me the most for ISU going into the 2008 season. A lot of deficiency's can be covered up with solid D-line play and I feel that the middle is the best way to help a defense as it open up so many other options with the DE's and LB's.

one that played for mac his freshman year and was injured all last season will be back-the good kid from muscatine-he will definitely help with the extra strength training and addition
of extra muscle-one of the frere brothers i believe.

At nose guard it'll be Jerrod Black, Nate Frere, and Michael Tate. At the tackle spot, Bailey Johnson, Chris Weir, and Austin Alburtis. There is some decent talent in that group, but not a great deal of experience.

Black and Johnson will be ok. The Juco who redshirted last year should do well too.

as per a PM from our man on street..... Michael Tate could actually play outside, he is big and has decent speed, told me he dont care if he plays inside or out and doesnt know where the staff wants him yet, but he told me last year of sitting out of football was the worst year of his life. He is ready to go | |

I think that DT will make or break this defense. The backers and d-backs can't really do their job if the tackles don't do theirs.
Black and Johnson are the two reigning Defensive Scout Team POYs so they definitely got some potential. They may get shoved around early but I think they'll settle in. Throw in big Nate, and the two JCs and we may have a fighting chance. We'll at least have some depth.
Then with Taylor, Parker, Lyle, Kellman, and Nick Frere we seem to have some options at DE...hopefully one of them steps up and becomes that pass rusher we've been lacking since Berryman.

Lots of different names being thrown around. Like to here it. Depth is something we haven't had a lot of recently on the defensive line. Good competition and lots of bodies to keep players fresh will make a world of difference.

black i think will be a monster... DE's are going to be really good, just need help inside to help out our "average" linebacking corps

Taylor is a beast, and we should have a better than average pass rush at least this year.

Need to get that number back up to 20+ so that we don't have to rely so much on LB & DB blitzes.

Glad to hear Tate got a medical redshirt. He's a big boy. I hope they can use him some places on the line.
