Re: Wow...we are dead last in football recruiting
I'm sure ND had higher ranked recruiting classes than ISU in the last 5 years. I believe their record in last 5 has been: 43-31 with (3) bowl trips.
ND is a perfect example how recruiting rankings don't always = an excellent season
None the less, I believe this is the exception and I would take LSU, USC, FL, TX recruiting classes for the last 5 years over any of our classes. Heck, I'd probably gamble on taking ND's last 5 classes over any of ours.
Just my opinion and nobody on a message board is gonna change that. Only Gene Chiz can.

Let's worry about beating the Baylors, aTms, TTechs, OSUs, Mizzous, KUs, K-States, Colorados, and NUs on our schedule on a consistent basis. Then we can worry about beating the bowl teams that go with beating said teams. Then we can worry about beating the OUs and Texases on our schedule. Then we can start worrying about beating teams such as the LSUs and the USCs.
In other words, we've got a lot smaller fish to fry before we worry about whether we can compete with LSU or USC.

From my point, you could have substituted OU & TX for LSU and USC; but it's still the same argument to me. For a change over my last 32 years as a 'Clone, I'd like to see what would happen if we had a highly ranked recruiting class, with plenty of 5* players.

My point still applies - let's worry about beating the teams in conference we SHOULD beat instead of being up in arms about not being able to compete with Texas and OU on a yearly basis.
Would I like 5 5-star athletes on my team? Sure, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for it to happen. Keep one thing in mind - how did that work out for Iowa over the last 5 years? Not so well.
I think I'll hold onto Chizik's stated recruiting philosophy - he's not necessarily looking for the best athletes in America - just the right ones. Sure, our recruiting class doesn't rank as "best" in America, but I venture to guess that Chizik thinks there's a whole lot of "right" athletes in this class.

I'd never want to trade for Iowa's classes of the past five years...Now, TX, or USC's?, heck yeah - I'd like to see how ISU can do with back-to-back years of top ranked recruiting talent.
Anyway, if we continue under-performing vs the mid-B12 teams, then will you hope for better recruiting classes, or a different coach...or both?
Look, not arguing, but I've debated this for a long, long time as a 'Clone and the redundant thing that keeps popping up which I don't agree is the opinion that ISU doesn't need top-ranked recruiting classes to compete with any level of the B12. ....Well that and a top-tiered Athletic Budget..but that's a different thread and after 32 years of banging my head on that wall, I ain't going there.

I agree with what you are saying. It will be a challenge to beat even mid-level B12 teams with last-placed recruiting classes. I think that was the premise of this thread too.

Re: Wow...we are dead last in football recruiting
Take a look at the other Big 12 recruiting classes. The conference did very well this year and is not a bad group to be last in. Couldn't care less though as player development when they reach college is far more important than what a kid did in high school. Wouldn't trade classes with K-State in a million years. I have faith in what our coaches will do with this group of freshman. Most have the physical tools to compete in the Big 12.

Re: Wow...we are dead last in football recruiting
Winning=Better recruits=Better, faster, stronger recruits in the long run will=better chance for conference and down the road even further, maybe national championships. Building a program takes time. So we just have to give it some time.

It's been that way for my 32-years as a 'Clone.
I would love to see the outcome when ISU signs the most 4/5 star recruits and has the top ranked recruiting class in the nation..... Even with Donnie Duncan as HC. FYI to you...LSU FB was in the crapper back in the late 80s / early 90s and was quite comparable to ISU's program at that time.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

Stars Don't Mean Crap!...U B RITE....It's the money boys...Whatever school has the most money wins the most games ... Hence you have Texas winning in the big 12 and Ohio State winning in the big 10!!!
It's the money boys always has been and always will be!!!

If you dont want to play intramurals then play in the big 10!!! I will take dead last with all freshman with potential (with 1 JUCO) versus next to last with 50% Juco as it has been in the past. Building for the future.

Why don't we stop worrying about what the media thinks about us and let Chizik show us what we can do.

We're going to be ok. I believe Darth Chizik is going to set the program on the right track. He's only into year #2, so let's just see what Chizik and his staff can do with these new guys coming in. So I'd say trust him. Just like Emperor Pollard does.
