Great ESPN Article On ISU and Jack Trice

Not sure if this article has already been posted, but I found this to be a great read and a great tribute to ISU and Jack Trice.

ISU only I-A school to honor African-American in stadium name

Enjoy!

LET'S GO STATE!!!

Re: Great ESPN Article On ISU and Jack Trice

Excellent article indeed! I think it's pretty cool that we're the only D1 university in the nation that has a stadium named for an African American - a young man who probably had to endure things that even Jackie Robinson didn't have to face. A true hero in every sense of the word. It sure beats naming the stadium after the highest commercial bidder.

The article mentions talk about a movie of his life. It didn't appear the talk was too serious, but I'd sure love to see it!

I knew most of the story already... but that just makes me sick and proud all at the same time.

It's too bad that more of the Trice family wasn't able to be recognized by ISU.

Let's go sink those gophers next time.

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.

Great article and thanks for sharing. I'm going to check Amazon to see if I can find a copy of the book. Just another reason to be a proud Cyclone.

His grandson George Trice attended ISU, I met him on several occasions, he was a pretty nice guy.

Oh... people will come Mr. Pollard. People will most definitely come.

No, I don't live in Seattle anymore, I'm back in Des Moines but I don't feel like changing my username.

Re: Great ESPN Article On ISU and Jack Trice

Great story. None of us could ever imagine how difficult that was to be an African-American athlete at that time. None of us can imagine what it's like to be an athlete now.

But to him, it was just being who he was. He was a football player. He was just doing what he loved. And he died because of that. That's really humbling.

I worked a lot of games at Jack Trice Stadium. And I am proud that I had the opportunity to stand on the field in the stadium that bears his name.

OK...it is my fault for looking, but given this is on such a public site as ESPN.com, I thought I'd check and see what our rivals think of the article.

I was disgusted to see there are those at HR calling Trice a pedophile for marrying a 15yr old.

Serves me right for looking, but PO's me to no end to see that comment.

Steve Jones quoted in the story is my dad! He wrote a bio on Trice.

Today, he actually went and talked to my wife's elementary school where she teaches about Trice and the book. He just wrote it as a hobby and it turned into a pretty good book.
