Re: Vegas Hotel Information - UNLV Game

I'm considering making the trip next fall, but I'll still be under 21... So, I'm guessing it's going to be hard for me to book a hotel, rent a car, etc. Does anybody have any info/advice about this?

Booking a room shouldn't be a problem and I wouldn't bother renting a room. Do a google search for Vegas under 21 and there are tons of things you can do...

The alumni package seems kind of pricey... Unless Allegiant is going to jack up their prices...

chizik (chiz-ick) verb, -ed
1)To leave in a lurch
2)To build hopes and dreams on talk of integrity and leave before attaining goals.

Except check into a hotel room. Trust me on this, a lot of hotel chains require at least one member of a group checking in to be 21. I've been planning my trip to St Louis for spring break and had to call 12 different hotels before finding one that would allow us to check in (we're 19), and that was only after speaking to the Manager at all hotels and only one told us it would be okay to check in. For some chains it's up to the individual location, for some places it's a city ordinance. I was told it was an alcohol-issue, trying to curb underage drinking/loud and obnoxious college students from roaming hotels at all hours of the night, and for some it's just the way it is.

The only reason I knew to call ahead and check on this was that last summer, me and some friends went to Chicago for a baseball weekend with an already-reserved hotel room in the suburbs. Neither of us was 21 and they wouldn't allow us to check in. We ended having to crash at a family friend's place in Rockford because we couldn't get into any hotels.

Seriously, check on this before you go. Or go with someone who is 21.

I wish Allegiant would hurry up and put their freaking rates up for September. I've been checking every day for the past month.

Well, since the thread came about again...

There are lots of websites that deal with coupons and/or packages for Vegas - just in general. DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT rent a car - IMO there's no reason. The airport is a $10 cab ride from the strip, and UNLV is about 2 blocks from MGM/NY NY/etc (if you need a location to start from).
Make hotel reservations where you can find the rates and location you want, but then check back online and/or call back - I've had hotels give me big discounts by "saying" i was going somewhere else or that I may have to cancel or something.
Staying on the strip vs off of it - honestly, it's worth the extra $10 per night to be on the strip IMO, also to save money on transportation costs.
Look into flying into PHX and then up to Vegas, or Denver and down to Vegas (using US Air, Southwest, America West or a combination of any of them).
Or, last but not least, have a friend who owns a timeshare on the strip, so you can get a suite for 6 of you to share (like my group is doing)

I know that UNLV is only two blocks off the strip, but isn't the stadium much further out than the campus?

MUCH MUCH MUCH further according to our cab driver when we were out there for the basketball tourny. We asked him where the stadium was and he said it was a ways out of town.

Re: Vegas Hotel Information - UNLV Game

Sorry - yes, mis-info there... the football stadium is separate from everything else that is on the strip... I wonder what consumed me when I made the trip out to the stadium last time and thought it was all inter-connected... I just google earth-ed it, it's about 10 miles... error on my part guys, but everything else other than one spot you'll be on Saturday is at the same spot... ;)

Ok, my wife and I are timing this with our Anniversary, so we're looking for an upscale hotel and plan on spending most of our time there. Should we stay at the Bellagio, Venetian, or Wynn? Can we go wrong with any of them?

Sorry, Vegas doesn't really have any nice hotels. The Wynn only has its own golf course and a Maserati dealership.

Wow, lets back up here. In order for you to have an anniversary during football season you must have been married during football season. What were you thinking? I hope it was at least during an off week.

Good catch, and no, we weren't. We were married in early august and are postponing the celebration to tie in a football game. Best of both worlds.
