The indiana thing looks like it has only about 50 seats... (I'm making a point, not actually counting them) I think you're only seeing the seats in red in that picture. If you look closely, most of the grey area is seating too, probably metal bench types. The red seats look to be of the fold-down individual seat variety.

The Jacobson Building is less than impressive when it comes to football stadiums. Nice building, but it doesnt add a whole lot to the stadium (although it was better than nothing).
Bowling in the south endzone... even with very few seats would make the stadium feel a lot closer in. I REALLY hope this gets done. I do have a bad feeling that this will be delayed due to lack of fundraising. That would say a lot about our ability to fundraise, while Iowa recently made Kinnick look amazing.

Re: End-Zone Bowl
Here is a better look at the stadium. It will make their stadium look way better.
The north end zone of Memorial Stadium will become the site of a signature, 100,000-square-foot facility that will address several critical needs for IU Athletics and our student athletes.

"This facility will allow us to compete on a truly elite level."
IU Football Head Coach Terry Hoeppner
At the heart of the new structure will be a 24,000-square-foot strength and conditioning center, located at field level, providing student athletes in every varsity sport with access to essential weight training and cardio equipment. Nearby will be the headquarters of Indiana Football, featuring new staff offices, position meeting rooms and a team auditorium. The facility will also offer increased space for athletic administration offices.
Two important features of the North End Zone Facility have been designed specifically to enhance the fan experience. First, it will become the home of the IU Hall of Champions, a space featuring museum-quality displays and a large banquet area where Hoosier fans can gather to celebrate the past, present and future of IU Athletics. Second, a new seating bowl, including an outdoor club seating area, will enclose the north end of the stadium. The resulting horseshoe layout will connect the East and West stands and will enhance the gameday atmosphere on football Saturdays. The concourse level-which will enable fans to walk from the East to West sides inside the gates-will feature new concession areas and men's, women's and family restrooms.
The North End Zone Facility, in combination with the new Academic Resource Center-to be located underneath the east side of the stadium-will create an innovative, unique compound for student athletes. With training, administration and academic support all housed in a single location, it will be significantly easier for our 600+ student athletes to meet the competing demands of their classes and their sports.
Leading the architectural planning and design of the facility is Ratio Architects of Indianapolis, assisted by Moody-Nolan, also of Indianapolis. The groundbreaking for the project occurred July 2007. Phase I, which focused on the foundation, was finished on November, 27, 2007. We are now in Phase II, actual construction, with an anticipated completion date of February 2009. Facility Highlights - 100,000-square-foot, multi-level and multi-purpose facility
- Stadium enclosure connecting East and West stands
- 24,000-square-foot strength and conditioning center with state-of-the-art equipment
- Indiana Football complex featuring staff offices, position meeting rooms, team room and pedestrian walkway that connects to practice fields
- Hall of Champions, an entertainment space for special events that spotlights and celebrates great achievements in the history of IU Athletics

Re: End-Zone Bowl
HS, thanks for the artist's rendering and story. Interesting.
That's a pretty sweet development for IU athletics. Hoosier fans must be pleased.
How is IU football looking these days, in the wake of Hoeppner's death? IU appeared to be improving under him; has the momentum continued?
What is IU's athletics budget like compared to ISU's? I would guess that our football attendance has been consistently better in recent years, but I don't know that for a fact.
IU has medical and law schools, iirc, and probably has a decent donor base? . . .

Re: End-Zone Bowl
I doesn't really say how much that increases capacity for them though. Their current capacity around 50K.

Re: End-Zone Bowl
You wouldn't imagine how much bowling in the end zone makes the stadium as a whole look better. The north side imo looks decent but in the future they could add seats to the grass parts and put concrete walls and ceilings over the player entrances.

Re: End-Zone Bowl
how about everyone donate all or half of their "stimulus package" checks coming this spring from Unky Sam to the NCC to get some more $$ raised for the bowling-in project....
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. Stimulus package donation would be a good idea.

IU has medical and law schools, iirc, and probably has a decent donor base? . . . You'd be surprised. IU has notoriously bad basketball facilities for being an "elite" program and it's something that has been mentioned for a while. They were actually in some financial trouble and their budget isn't a whole lot bigger than ISU's, which is saying something because they operate as part of the cash cow that is the Big 10.
