If his sister went to Iowa then he might be making occasional visits, getting to know the campus, going to some parties. Since she's going to ISU maybe it's the reverse.

um. Illinois has one of the top engineering (if not the top) in the nation.

Northwestern I believe does not offer engineering, but yea if it was just on the engineering program, an Illinois Engineering degree cannot be beat.

See, the thing is the engineering college at Iowa is where they teach them to drive the trains, where at ISU the teach them to design them...

As long as he really wants to get into engineering, we have a good shot. Seems to really like the staff. But if he grew up a die hard hawk fan, I would definately see them in the driver's seat.

I thought that the engineering college at Iowa was weak--until a classmate took her Engineering degree from there to a Masters at Stanford--with honors.

ISU's engineering college isn't as strong as it once was. Iowa's isn't that far behind.

That said, we could use a kid like Barrent.

If Barrent ends up at iowa, he is flat out not that serious about engineering. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but ISU's engineering program is heads-and-shoulders better. We have more faculty, better facilities, better rankings and more majors options.

Illinois and MSU I can see, but iowa can't compete in that area.

Iowa was big in Hydrology/Hydraulics at one time. What kind of ISnjUnear does he want to be? Nuclear? Electrical? Civil? Aeronautical? Mechanical? Ag? Industrial? Etc? ISU has most of the types he might want. Hope he wants Ag. We have some real good Ags.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.

    Re: Barrent Article in Yahoo

While what he wants to major in will surely be a factor in where he goes, I doubt it will be in the top 5. From what I read, it seems like the in-state schools probably have a good feel for him and he likes both coaching staffs.

It sounds like family is important and that he is looking at engineering. With that said, I would have to think we have a good shot at him. And truly, that is all we can hope for (well, we can hope he chooses wisely and goes with ISU, but I doubt anything said on this board will influence him one way or another).

Some idiot Hawkeye I was talking to over spring break last year (he tried to tell me Iowa has one THE national title in football too) was a U of I engineering student and he also said how U of I has a better engineering program than ISU and employers want to get U of I engineering students because ISU students were so smart that they were socially inept. Between that and him claiming I owed him a case of beer because Iowa finishing #1 in some random poll in 1958 (this was neither the AP or Coaches poll and keep in mind about 40 different polls published "national champions" back then) results in a national title he furthered proved how far those a$$holes have their heads shoved their behinds...

My dad recently judged a regional engineering competition and noted that Iowa was a joke. He said they looked like the three stooges out there. I seriously doubt the hawks are catching up with us.

Yeah - back in 1958 there were something like 20 relevant publication national championships. the 19th most relevant awarded Iowa the national championship. The other 19 awarded it to Oklahoma.
