SI.com picking up on the qb battle

Here is a link of an AP article about our QB battle this spring. It's on the college football homepage headlines. At least it's good pub for the 'Clones. And yes, I for one think it is a bit out of proportion and AA will be the man.SI.com - NCAA Football - Arnaud, Bates compete for QB job at Iowa State - Tuesday April 8, 2008 3:57PM

Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town'

This is funny because there really isn't much of a battle for the QB job, it's Arnaud's to lose. Even Chris Williams wrote that.

Didn't Arnaud throw 2 td's and 4 picks? The article said he had thrown no touchdowns and 1 interception.

The job is hardly Arnaud's to lose - no matter who wrote what. I think he'll be our QB, at the very least the "main guy" in a 2-headed system if it comes to that.

But Bates is certainly making a very good case - he looked almost as good as Arnaud did in the scrimmage Saturday.

I'd say it's Arnaud's to lose. He's will be in his 3rd year of college, played in some meaningful spots last year and his compeition is a true sophomore who played exclusively at WR last fall. If AA doesn't win the job that means one of two things to me.

1. Arnuad really screwed the pooch.
2. Bates is that damn good.

Re: SI.com picking up on the qb battle

It's not true that Bates exclusively played WR. He practiced in the fall as both QB and WR and did get some snaps at QB. He spent a lot of time last year learning the QB system, just as Arnaud did.

Re: SI.com picking up on the qb battle

I agree that it is Arnaud's to lose. He'll be the primary starting QB. This is a good thing. We need good depth at QB and Bates will certainly supply that. I'm sure Bates will see the field, he has the skills.
