Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:

But Bates is certainly making a very good case - he looked almost as good as Arnaud did in the scrimmage Saturday. | |

He's will be in his 3rd year of college, played in some meaningful spots last year and his compeition is a true sophomore who played exclusively at WR last fall. If AA doesn't win the job that means one of two things to me.
1. Arnuad really screwed the pooch.
