How many times in school history has ISU won more than 7 games in 1 season?
I was listening to some predictions and was wondering how our best teams in the history of ISU have held up.

Iowa State football and history don't go together very well.

I hear a lot of people predicting 8 wins and I knew since I was born we have won more than 7 games ONE time... so that made me wonder.
If Chizik could EVER pull off an 8 win season, he should be immediately put in the ISU Hall of Fame.

Chizik was brought here to have seasons above 7 wins (since Mac was fired for being medicore) so I can see why fans are expecting big things. I believe 08 is a bit too soon as well but with our schedule I suppose 7 wins is "possible" but not likely. Hopefully 2009 is a breakout for us and it very well could be.

I don't think the median fan is predicting 8 wins this year. Hoping? Sure. Predicting? I would think people have learned their lesson by now.

I'm predicting that ISU will play 13 games, win some, lose some, and the fans to have a dang good time going. I think that is the whole point right?

I'm kind of a big deal!

I think ISU can win fromm 4 - 8 games in the 2008 season. My thought is that it hinges on the defensive line. If ISU can hold their won on that side of the line, there can be some good things happening in 2008.
Arnaud only needs to manage the game, not win them. I think the O-Line will be impressive.

Omaha's prediction that 4 wins is a stretch is a stretch. It's very possible that we only win 4 games, but saying it's a stretch that we will is just not a good prediction in my opinion.

The reality is that it is much easier to win more than 7 games than it has been in the past. I believe the 12 game schedule has been around since about 2000. 11 games were played routinely from about 1970 to about 2000. 10 games were played from the mid 50s to about 1970 and prior to that (the mid 50s) most of the seasons were 9, or often, fewer games.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

2000 (9-3) That's quite a drought between 1906 and 1971. Did ISU even have a football program during those years? | | |

More reality - what the teams did in the 70s was quite impressive. At that time, there wasn't any scholarship restrictions. To win 8 games or even 7 in an 11 game season was truly remarkable.
To me, that's the standard to look back at ISU history...
