how do you think the squawkeyes always get to bowl games? when the little eleven is this pathetic ... well anyone can win in that lousy league!! You do know Michigan State was in a bowl game, so they are improved and Illinois has been to 2 BCS bowls in the last 7 years, 2001 Sugar Bowl and the 2008 Rose Bowl. While I hate the Hawks those were a couple of good wins last year for them, but they are road games this year and they will lose both.

Had we played Purdue later in the bball season, I think they would have handled us.

I think ISU would finish lower half in the Big 11, but that doesn't mean the Big 11 is good by any means... ISU has a ways to go to compete in the Big 12 North, hopefully we can see some major improvement this year. IMO, the Big 11 has been absolutely awful the past few years, but they will definitely bounce back and again be one of the top BCS conferences...

There's no doubt that the BT has been down the past few years. But, with UW making strides, a new coach at UM, Michigan State gaining strength, Illinois making the Rose Bowl, and some of Brewster's big classes, there will be a lot more competition in the league than there was a few years ago.

After that, we could beat a couple and hang with the rest. But I'd hardly call us competitive with all the teams in that conference right now. Even when the conference is down - which it is now.

I want to be an absolute homer and say yeah, we'd walk all over the Big 1- right now, but my realistic side won't let me. We were absolutely terrible at times last year, and we looked BAD with our 1-5 start. Sure, we are improved, but the team is very young. At best we'd be middle tier, but truthfully we'd be one of the lesser teams in that conference.

It is too early in the GC era to tell what we will see in the next couple of years. Also, as the Hawks have found out, IU and NW and IL are no longer the automatic wins they were just 4 years ago. I think MSU will be much improved this year. The Goffers might get better this year, but that would not take a lot. Minnesota had a top 20 recruiting class, and most of those guys were JUCOs, so they'll be playing next year.
If the problem last year at Minnesota was talent, I don't think that's going to be a problem this year. I'd pick Minnesota as my "most improved" team in the big 10 this year.

In FB, we wouldn't really compete too much with Penn St, Michigan, and OSU on a yearly basis, but I do think we could cause teams A LOT of problems with our spread offense being run in a more slow it down, pound the ball league. We cause Iowa all kinds of problems bcuz they don't matchup well against us: (i.e. See Phillip Bates' catch over Klinkenborg to set up the game winner last year. But we would still be in the middle in that league in FB. In Basketball I do believe we would eventually have a chance to do some real damage. And in women's basketball, we would be in the top 3 every year. But I really don't see us doin a TON better in FB if we were in the little 11.

How about if we played Ohio State the week after they played Michigan, at Jack Trice and their starting QB was out?

They've had monster offensive line recruits, and their defense is absolutely dominating (usually).
QB play wouldn't matter to them.
