Scout.com: Big 12 Spring Football - What's Happening?
I find it hard to believe that Scales will on the top of the depth charts come August.
"Think Husker fans are pumped up to wipe the slate clean and move on? Memorial Stadium is a sell-out for the spring game with all 81,067 seats filled, and new head coach Bo Pelini and his staff are taking full advantage of the excitement with the scrimmage to be a prime showcase for recruits. These events are always a big deal in the recruiting process, but considering this is Pelini's first really big moment as the man in charge, the support and the environment are expected to make a huge impact."
Holy crap, a sellout for the spring game!?
I think the best situation for this team would be a two QB system. Bates has showed this spring that he can be effective through the air and on the ground. The Bates/Franklin combination looks like it could be huge for us this year.
Think about it this way.
What if the State of Iowa only had ONE university.
Every Cyclone Fan, Hawk Fan, Panther Fan would belong to this fanbase. There are times where Kinnick has 70K, JT has 55K and UNI Dome has 15K in one Saturday.
That is close to 150K in attendance for this small Population State.
Screw Nebraska. But yes getting a sold out Spring game is stupid. Talk about a bunch of crazy people.
Hey, Alabama had over 91k last year for Saban's first, and did you guys' see what Urban Meyer did at Florida to keep fans involved and get all the students to come out for a spring game?
ESPN Page 2 - Hill: Meyer connects with students
If I was in Iowa or even back home in Chicago - I'd make the effort to be at ISU's game, but a $300+ plane ticket to DSM is a little expensive for the wife to approve of a exhibition game. ;)
Wasn't it reported that Scales was on top of the depth chart going into last season too? And then all of a sudden Alexander Robinson started the opener and then JJ got the majority of the carries?
Even if all three of them are healthy all year, I would say there's about a 5% chance that Jason leads our team in carries.
They're giving away 10K tickets and selling the other 71K as GA at $8 (adults) or $4 (children).
Conservative estimate is that they gross $420,000 just in ticket sales. For a spring game. Meanwhile, we throw the doors open and get less than 10K people with NO admission fee.
Scales was at the top, Bass was supposed to be the great "1B" back, not quite starter, but getting a ton of carries, and Robinson came in because of injuries and did so well, he kept the top spot.
Sedrick Johnson could be the man!!! Never know! Wish we could see him at the spring game! Still can't wait though!!!
