Ummm...perhaps you shouldn't have left early?

Re: *Spring Game Thread* (streaming link)

Perhaps not. It is easy to look at the spring game and say Bates played better, so he should start. But it's not that easy. Neither looked good when I was watching. Biggest difference was that Bates held onto the ball a couple seconds longer than Arnaud did, and really struggles to throw the out. Unfortunately it was not live on the QB, so we could not see Bates get out and run.

We won't know any better today on who is going to be the starting QB.

Indeed. I easily recognized the shiny head.

Later I noticed the cardinal CF shirt with "ISUFan22" on the back of it.

MaxPower57 and I left early too. A lot of people did. After the first part of the scrimmage not much was really happening. Plus it was cold. I was not impressed to say the least but you also have to realize that this isn't a true scrimmage with the first team O vs. the first team D. A LOT of switching between 1st and 2nd teams. I'd be surprised if the OL that started today will be starting come August 28th.

Some People see things as they are and say why? I dream things that never were and say why not? When I took this job I said why not Iowa State? Why not winning? Why not bowl games? Why not sell outs? Why not national respect? Why not us? Why not here? Why not the cyclone family?

I was more interested in, say, how Bo Williams looked with the ball. He sounded tough, but did he show good acceleration?

You know I only saw him carry the ball a couple times and they were for minimal gains. I had to get back before he broke that long run. He sure does look the part of a great RB though. Great size

Bo was getting quite a few carries towards the end.

Bo, was very impressive late in teh scrimmage. Bates looked fantastic today. He had a much much better scrimmage than Arnaud did.

I thought both Bates and Arnaud looked pretty good in the 2nd half of the scrimmage. Also, I felt more than either one of them looking bad, it was more on the receivers for being unable to hang onto the ball. Notice, once the receivers started holding onto the ball, the offense clicked much better. Also, Bo Williams looked pretty darn good. 2009 should be a heck of a year...

Yep...the ISUFan22 on the shirt was kind of a giveaway...I walked right by Superfan on my way in and was 13 rows behind him in the game.

I don't think the receivers were helping the QBs much either. We didn't stay the whole time, but what I saw didn't impress me too much. Not much effort going after the ball, especially Franklin.

I saw Leonard Johnson and Jeremiah Schwartz roaming the sidelines during the game. Were any other newcomers here today?
