obviously if he doesn't win the starting job he will be the backup. my point was more along the lines that if bates doesn't win the starting job, we will see a lot more of him on the field then we would arnaud if he were to lose out on the starting job. bates will see the field for sure next year-at qb every snap, or at qb to mix it up a bit, or at wr/rb/wild hog to throw some confusion at the defense. i don't think that arnaud brings that to the table-if he doesn't win the starting job, i see him being a clipboard holder, and not much more.

IMO, Scales will be handling most of the short-yardage situations... IF he stays healthy, and that is a BIG if...

Chizik repeatedly said we don't have a big playmaker in the WR corp. We really NEED Sed Johnson to be a playmaker for us at wideout. So I'll go with him.

I think there is a difference between a "big playmaker" and a "difference maker". We can have a lot of big playmakers, but perhaps only one who can make the difference in a game. Oregon's quarterback last season was a difference maker, not merely a big playmaker. Bo Williams might well be that type of player. If Phillip or Austen show a great deal of leadership, either could be a difference maker, and not merely a big paymaker.

A defensive player who gets a sack or an interception that isn't merely a big play, but a crucial turning point of the game, is a differencemaker. I'm not sure that I see anyone like that on the roster...but there are candidates. We'll see this fall.

OK - I admit, I picked Rickey Thompson based on the scrimmage. I was SO impressed with his toughness. I believe his stats were 11 carries for 55 yards with a long of 10 and a TD. He just wouldn't go down. I would very much like to see Scales have success and stay injury free. Good call on SJ.

It's not just the final scrimmage. AA clearly came into spring practice with the lead in terms of previous opportunities at QB. PB has clearly closed the gap during the 15 spring practices and appears to have the momentum at this stage. It is wide open at this point. They guy who does the most over the summer and gets it done in August will set the starting nod in game one.

The Team (both offence and defence) in a nut shell. With 1yr under Coach Chizeks leadership they should have the knowledge and the play book and blocking down.

Live for yourself, your family, your friends then your job!!!
