Re: Guess what made the Board of Regents' Agenda?

on an unrelated topic regarding KCRG... Wow, I can't believe Bruce Aune and John Campbell are still there.. I remember those guys doing the news when I was a kid in the 80s.... anybody from eastern Iowa could probably relate.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Re: Guess what made the Board of Regents' Agenda?

My problem is ya'll are quoting numbers from games early in the year... for if you show up to the Missouri/Colorado every year, you know that we don't come close to demand for our current seats in most seasons. I mean last year weren't they were offering 2 packs, buy K-state or whatever and get the Mizzou game free... we have demand for half the season but we still suck at maintaining fan attendance through out the year

Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!

I think the increase in the number of people who normally wouldn't buy tickets will far outweigh the number of people who downgrade tickets. A number of those 'new' season ticket holders will want to get better ones some day...

I do think the project would be freak'n sweet don't get me wrong ('cause I'm drooling thinking about it)

But I also know what JTS looks like in November, and that makes it a little less cool...

Plus as others have pointed out, basketball needs some love too

I think the question would be, how many people would buy regular basketball tickets if the $99 tickets weren't available?

I buy regular season tickets for football and the $99 tickets for basketball. If the $99 tickets for basketball were canceled, I wouldn't renew my tickets because I was only going since the tickets were so cheap.

The addition of more $99 tickets is going to bring in additional fans that aren't even buying season tickets now.

I don't think I'm alone when I say I'd like to see more and more planets fall under the ruthless domination of our solar system.

ISU has to get approval from the BOR to spend money on big projects. The BOR then has to make sure that ISU has the funding in place to pay for it.

It looks like JP will have a consultant look over his financial plan and that company will report back to the BOR at a later date. If their findings are in line with Pollard's, then the BOR gives ISU the OK. I assume that all of this will be done in the summer and fall so that ISU can start work as soon as the FB season is over.

A bottom bowl would hold approximately 5k, which would be an additional 1,500 people per game. Let's say that the upper deck would hold 8k (I have no real idea). Of course that wouldn't be sold out the whole time, but say it averages 5k. The entire structure would bring in an additional 6.5k per game. At $180 a person, that is $1.17M a season in ticket sales alone. That would make a heck of a debt payment. Not to mention donors taking a chunck of the initial cost and any suites or new box seats they add.
This is good in principal. The problem is that we aren't selling out already. You're counting on an additional 5-7k more people per game and there is no proof that there are that many more fans willing to purchase tickets.

I agree, if I was in Greg's position (not to mention Bill and the VB head coach) and this was put in front of the promised improvements/additions to Hilton - I'd be quite displeased.

Football is the big money maker, but again - we have not shown anything to support building an upper deck would be profitable. I love our proactive approach and desire to aim high - that's one of Pollard's best attributes.

I just don't want to see other sports that have more pressing needs take a backseat to this.

I think if we can win 6+ games each of the next 2 years, more people will come. Also I think that this renovation can provide some great motivation for the team the next few years.

Will the south end-zone seats and south hill sides have to be closed during a season for construction of the bowling in?

That's another CYCLONE.....FIRST DOWN!!!!

I'm just going to state...we won 6+ in '04 and '05. People came, but it still didn't call for an upper deck in the end zone.

1. We didn't host Mizzou last year.

Look at our record before the K-State game. 1-8. Of course fewer people are going to attend when we're 1-8 vs when we were 0-0 or 0-1 playing an in-state school (UNI). JP is expecting more wins a couple years down the road, and with wins comes better attendance. If we had been even 5-4 or 6-3 do you think the K-State game still would've had lower attendance?

WHAT? I don't know what is wrong with the current practice facility. It is rather nice IMO. Have you seen it?

Far too long this was a BB first school. We have a long ways to go still in football. Bring on the expansion of the S. end zone.

We played Mizzou for the chance to go to the Big 12 title game (arguably the biggest game in modern ISU football history) and 40,626 tickets were sold.

Have you seen anybody else's practice facilities in the Big 12? Even KSU is building a basketball only facility.

and think of a situation when ISU is 8-1, 7-2-ish heading into november... the stands and decks are sold out, and people are plopping their fannies on the cold, dormant grass, which would be even better with a nice drizzle... think those fans would be happy or prone to even come to a game if they were going to sit on the hillsides? they might be if they were going to sit in stands that provide a real big-time college stadium feel... winning cures all when it comes to sports attendance (unless you're CU football). Perhaps the strategy is to go for the gusto, and the BoR says no, or scale it back, then at least the lower deck gets bowled in? (and I apologize if someone mentioned that already, haven't read all the posts)
