I support the decision 100% to go big or go home right now. Its kind of like having a sports car with 500 horsepower, although most of anyone will never need that power or class, It looks good, runs better and makes you feel good.

Look at our record before the K-State game. 1-8. Of course fewer people are going to attend when we're 1-8 vs when we were 0-0 or 0-1 playing an in-state school (UNI). JP is expecting more wins a couple years down the road, and with wins comes better attendance. If we had been even 5-4 or 6-3 do you think the K-State game still would've had lower attendance? Recent history would suggest yes.
Personally, as a casual follower of ISU athletics, I think adding an upper deck in anticipation of winning games 5 years down the road would be a huge mistake. In terms of more expense down the line, we aren't talking about an upper deck costing $120 million instead of $65 million.
Also, practice facilities for Hilton and etc... should be put ahead of another stadium project. Balance things out. Putting all of your eggs in one basket just seems like a dangerous move.
Of course, if he does it, and everything works, than it could potentially be one of the best things that has ever happened to ISU athletics. | ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds. |

I don't think we'll have a problem selling the seats as long as the Cyclone Club can get the 1 in 10 program going (1 in every 10 living alumni donate to the Cyclone Club.) There are about 15 counties in Iowa that have already hit that 10% mark. Just 79 more... |

And yes, it always is half full, even when it should be a sellout.

It is time to raise football up another notch. No, I haven't. But I do know that both Fennelly and McDermott have repeatedly mentioned that our lack of a practice facility hurts us greatly in respect to our peers in the Big 12 and I'm pretty sure they would know better than either of us. The only facilities I have ever really seen even pictures of are KU, UT, and Mizzou, and they are all fantastic.
Football has an excellent practice facility that is right up there with anybody in the Big 12.

The Donor is going to want their name on the endzone so it can be splashed up on ABC, Versus, FOX etc. The basketball facility can not provide this kind of marketing so even though Everyone and their dog knows that BBall needs a practice facility more it will probably be harder to get in place. Trust in Jamie. Its not like he is just going into this not knowing his books and donors. I have no idea where 65 Million is going to come from though. Unless Denny Albaugh donates 30 million himself?
As for seating...
Currently we have a White trash way of getting 57K in our stadium Why not have a nice way to get 60K + north hills? Its not a big jump in capacity and our stadium would jump up to the middle of the pack of the big12. Not too bad if you ask me.

The decision of when a bball practice facility and JT expansion take place is more up to donors than anyone inside the AD. Both projects will most likely need a lead donor and when they are found for either they will do that specific project. Not to be a rumor monger but I have heard through the grapevine that one has been found for the football expansion. | When all is said and done, more is said than done |

i hope the rumor you speak of is reality. i'll admit it-i'm very selfish on this topic-i don't go to bball games, and don't watch many of them on tv either, but i go to almost every home football game, and would like to see some facilities on par with the rest of the big 12. sure down the road i would love for the bball and vball teams to have excellent facilities as well, but i would much rather football gets theirs first, and i'm sure there are about 40,000 other fans that feel the same. | ONE OF GODS OWN PROTOTYPES-TO WEIRD TO LIVE, TO RARE TO DIE. |

But I share the same sentiments as others...will it just sit empty. With tickets so expensive, I can't imagine another 5-7k buying season tickets right now.

That makes sense: if a big donor has already decided to throw some money at the football stadium, why not utilize it? We wouldn't be able to use it anywhere else and might as well give the football program another thing to be excited about.

Down towards the bottom of the PDF (linked above) it metioned that currently ~300,000 people attend football games per year (50k per game, 6 games per year). Adding the bowling the endzone and adding an upper deck was expected to increase that number to 340,000 per year (56.7k per game, 6 games per year). So we'd be looking at an additional 6700 seating capacity. If this is done, I'd like to eliminate hillside seating all together.
