If the south endzone is bowled in with an upper deck, and if I were a betting man, I'd bet large amounts of money that we will set another record for season ticket sales.
Add in the fact that we plan on being a good football team at that point. Pollard plans on increased demand from excitement from the renovated stadium and a winning program. It's a big risk, but it does kind of make sense.
With that said, I also want a basketball practice facility. Are there no millionaires on CycloneFanatic? Geez.

Good heavens, I think that before too long we could seat 70K at Jack Trice--and I'd like to keep that option open as the stadium is renovated...it doesn't seem cost effective to tear out a new south end zone or Jacobsen in ten years to add extra seating.
Before you argue, there is an immense untapped market in Des Moines that could easily absorb that many tickets, let alone everywhere else around the state. It's a big risk, but it does kind of make sense. It makes perfect sense. You can seel seats if they aren't built, and why turn away paying customers, rather than building a fan base? With that said, I also want a basketball practice facility. Are there no millionaires on CycloneFanatic? Geez. If I win the Powerball (or have a Rowling-esque best seller), I've already told the AD office that I'm on that. Frankly, it may be time to replace Hilton, rather then remodel. I was talking to a fellow ISU alum who's not a big basketball fan, and he asked my why we need a practice facility, when we have Hilton. I explained that the basketball team actually has to rent Hilton to practice there, and it costs a great deal. He looked at me and asked, "But wasn't Hilton built for the basketball team? Why should they have tp pay rent? "
I explained that "rent" was a bookkeeping ploy to bill the basketball program, znd he looked wide-eyed at me and said, "That's crazy." | | |

I wouldn't be surprised to see this go up first. I think it's a fantastic recruiting tool first of all -- imagine being a recruit coming to see Iowa State for the first time. They take the University Ave exit north, and about a quarter mile later, they're rounding the corner and see JTS's brand new south end zone addition nearing close. For many newcomers, JTS is the first thing they see when they come to Ames, and the completion of a state-of-the-art seating facility there on the south end zone would be a hell of a first impression.

Also I love how southernhawk is complaining about ISU making improvements to their athletic programs. Could be a huge mistake...unless it works out of course. Nice argument.
The hoks could win the National Championship this year, unless they lose 5 games. Why would anyone buy tickets? It could be very dissapointing, or it could be great.

With our history in football I would prefer JP to take risks that give you a chance of being great rather than staying the same old course and expecting things to fall into your lap.

Won't the athletic department run Hilton in 2009? That should eliminate all costs...

Yes, the athletic department should regain total control of Hilton in a year or two, unless things have changed. That's how I heard it last.

Also, I thought ISU sold their control of Hilton to the Iowa State Center because they couldn't afford to keep it staffed themselves for clean up, concessions, etc... kind of awful either way you look at it, but still.

The biggest change is that ISU games will move up to priority one. Concerts, conventions, trade shows, etc., will have to schedule around game dates. The only remaining question is where does an ISU practice fall into the scheduling order, specifically from July 2008 until the BB/VB practice facility is finished?

I believe ISU is "taking back" Hilton Coliseum. But that doesn't solve the bigger issue--when the current teams do practice in Hilton, there is one court. One. Most high school varsity programs are able to utilize at least one gym that has a full length court and 3 cross courts (Beyer, anyone?).
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm almost 100% positive that the teams only have the full court option in Hilton. No smaller courts to run some 3 vs 3 games to work on basics at the same time. No 6 additional baskets so guys don't have to fight over 2 baskets and they can focus on making practice shots instead of "will 3 other shots converge on mine to miss".

With 12 guys on the roster, you can only have two sets of 3-on-3 going at a time -- on the two main baskets. They have a total of 6 hoops set up during practice.

Still, we need a basketball facility.
If I was a recruit, facility wise, I'd be more impressed by the school with all practices in one central location that had courts, a film room, coaches offices, nice locker room (perhaps the same one as for gameday, at every practice?), etc., than the school with 3 or 4 building scattered around, and crappy locker rooms--they don't even have their own lockers in Forker or State. They have a locker room--but it's the same one that the general public can use, at least in State it's that way.
