I believe it is either 58 or 59k for "real" seats. Including the 2 remainin hillsides could probably get another 2-3k.

I know a guy who is recently retired from ISU FP&M. He told me that in the plans he saw, the capacity with the second deck would be around 65k. Those were older plans and if some of those seats are made into premium seating it may be less.

Is the construction of the upper deck at the expense of practice facilities for basketball? If it's one or the other, I would rather have the basketball upgrades. IMO, we need that more than an upper deck, which we may not be able to fill to capacity anyway.

Thats not entirely true... Texas has a video board at their bowled end... though theirs is probally newer and requires less support/space... (That would be their small board... then there is the one at the other end that spans the whole end zone
Putting it in front of the Jacobson probally wouldn't work - thats where the band is now (yes they can be moved) but more importantly (sorry band) they tend to host big donars on the deck. Above it certainly is a possibility, it wouldn't cut into seats or block views of the game but IMO it'd look rather tacky... there would probally be structural challenges with putting our current board above the Jacobson as well.

Currently our "Stated" Capacity is 55,000. Its really like 46,500 Real seats, Plus about 10,000 hillside. (aka MAC conference seating)
I think the Capacity would be about 57-58K of real seats if bowled in. Then Jamie could either keep people off the hills or still sell hillside on the north. So then our capacity would be 58,000 plus about 6,000 in the North endzone (Hills and bleachers)
That is why I don't see the big deal about the capacity. Its not like we are Indiana averaging 35,000 in a 52,000 "real" seat stadium that is in the process of making it 65,000.
Plus there would be one or two games a year were that would be sold out. Imagine 7,000 more seats for those big games?
That is 1/2 million in ticket sales alone. More cars for $20 parking, More concession stands etc..
A couple things I am very interested in is the suites around the entire stadium. If Jamie's plan will call for a Sound and Video upgrades. Wouldn't it make more sense to install a new scoreboard over/around the Jacobson so everyone doesnt have to stretch their neck back to see it? I wonder if they could also use the existing scoreboard also? That might me overkill, but what do you do with it?

the renderings of the bowled in endzone had a new jumbo tron, slightly bigger than the one we have, Memorial stadium has a huge stadium on their bowl , the support would be built into the bowl.

Good time to upgrade maybe? I'd like to see a longer (letterbox style) screen and scoreboard above the new second level. And then two smaller video screens on either side of the Jacobsen Building, along with speakers.

This was beat to death in atleast one other thread but... it boils down to several things including donors/sponsership - there might be money available to do the phase II construction from a lead donar, and none for the practice facility.
Most people agree that the practice facility is more important, but it comes down to who will back it with money?
Arguments for doing the deck sooner rather than later include cost savings as well.
The other thing though is this propsal is more about Phase II... not just adding an upper deck. Yes that addition is officially being made to Phase II where as before they were going to construct it in such a manner that it could be added later. However the over-all approval is for the entire Phase II construction - so it's Jack Trice being put over the practice facility, not an upper deck over the practice facility.

I only get that because JT holds 46,500 and our largest crowds are I think just under 57K. that would mean 10,000 people would have to be on the 4 hills. I am really tired of having a stadium where nobody knows the capacity.

I would liken (3) to how Colorado has theirs set up. It's tough to see in the scaled-down picture, but the original size makes it clearer. | | |

Some good points - I don't know if it'd be suites all the way around, as we have club seatting right now on the East side and I don't know that that will completely go away (Questions to answer would be include dealing with the big gap in donation levels required to go from seats to suites, do we have the demand for that many suites, ect), however suite/club seating all the way around would be sweet.
I would like to see a new score board, but I would also be in favor of using the current one as well. I really don't think it's overkill (maybe on the budget, but certainly not in the stands), I mean right now fans in the South Endzone have a hard time seeing replays, if they can. Having a board at either end is nice from that perspective.
TV's in the concession stands (And flat screens in front of the unrinals!!!) would be nice too | Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly! Go Cyclones, in accordance with Prophecy |

Words do not describe the AWESOMENESS that would be the implimentation of this. I'd like to see it wrap the bowl (this thought has crossed my mind...)
I mean think about it when They do the lightening and storm stuff around the LED boards in Hilton? It'd be a little different out doors (it's darker in Hilton so it stands out more I'd think) but it would still be a GREAT tool to pump up the crowd with.

where are the new renderings at, or are they the old ones from a year ago when the project was just the lower section?

I also would not be opposed at all to new ribbon board along the east and west stands as well.

Yes filling capacity will be an issue in bad years, but in the bad years will still have those 1-2 games were it sells out IMO. If you do the numbers it makes sense. Recuits like seeing nice facilities. Right now we don't have a nice stadium. If we can have someone step up and get the basketball facility built and give The Jake a football makeover then I think we will be ready to compete facility wise.
Just keep telling yourself this:
We get 57K for big games right now. Why not have that same capacity, but real seats?
Just think when they built hilton if they would have said "maybe we should just go with 10,000 seats instead of 14,000 because we will never sell it out. heck, we hardly sell Hilton out anymore, but i don't hear anyone complaing about that capacity.
