I mean think about it when They do the lightening and storm stuff around the LED boards in Hilton? It'd be a little different out doors (it's darker in Hilton so it stands out more I'd think) but it would still be a GREAT tool to pump up the crowd with. I look at it as more space for:
(1) Clock/score at the north end
(2) Team/individual stats
(3) Out-of-town scores
(4) Rotating ads ($$$$$$)
(5) Various pump-up graphics
All of those could be in larger fonts and different colors (not just red) to be more easily readable.

Can somebody create a model of what JT would look like with a upper deck in the end zone? I don't know if I have seen one before, but I liked the ones people made with the original bowled in end zone idea.

I think the one at hilton cost like 1-2 million dollars. Could you imagine 100 yards on both sides of a stadium?

If we ever got a videoboard the size of what Texas has, I'd probably wet myself. Somebody told me once that there are certain effects (think bright flashes of light, strobe light stuff) that they can't put on their videoboard during night games because it's distracting to drivers on the interstate that goes by the stadium.
Don't know if it's true, but after seeing the sheer size of that board, I could believe it.

If a new scoreboard was purchased it would have to be the one to go over the Jacobson - newer ones are thinner and therefore need less support/can be spanned better probally... still may be issues with it.
Cost of a ribbon is why I doubt it'd happen, but I would still love to see it happen for all the reasons TheShadow listed.
Of course a 2nd score board can contribute to some of that as well, such as out of town scores.

You could put a scoreboard above on Northside hill and a Jumbotron above the other, then a huge HD one above the new addition...
The nationals just put in a 4,500 sq ft HD scoreboard.

Is there a reason why you can't build the supports for the scoreboard, and what I mean is throw a couple of stylish columns inside the Jake, in order to support a scoreboard on top of the building? Is there something in there that cannot be moved?

Another thing...
Our current Suite capacity is 24 right?
They are installing 24 on the west side of the stadium currently. They want to do another 24 on the east right? That would give us a total of 72 suites plus club seating and the Jacobson? Doesn't that seem a bit high?
i thought i heard at one point 2 years ago we were 12th in the Big 12 in suites with 24 and Texas was first with 64
How many suites Iowa have?

One other thing about putting 2 smaller screens in the two North Hills is it would give the feeling of the stadium being totally closed in even when its not.

Back to the Basketball thing. I wonder if the decision to renovate State Gym contributed in delaying the basketball practice facility. Those renovations, although not being paid for by the athletic dept., should give them enough room to practice until the new facility is able to be built.

I think the reason they pushed back the practice facility is because additional seating in Jack Trice=$ and the practice facility doesn't. Even if you make the augment that the team will play better because of the practice facility and that will equal better basketball attendance, the south end zone expansion will still provide more income. Not to mention that there is more momentum behind the football program right now than the basketball program.

Or maybe McD took a page from Donovan and decided the guys weren't playing well enough to deserve a practice facility...

I think the improvement to State Gym is the reason the practice facility is being pushed back. I am okay with that. Had there been no improvement being made to State Gym, I would be against the upper deck before bball practice facility.
