I agree for the most part. I guess an argument could be made that a bball practice facility would help Coach McD recruit and coach them up, which would in turn help improve the quality of the team and increase the number of tickets sold. But I just think you would get much more bang for your buck from improvements to the football stadium.

Coach McD only needs to sign three or four players in a given year, and ISU still has one of the top arenas in the Big 12.

Both cheaper and more inexpensive.

The plans laid out by GS included a hoops practice facility underneath the south end zone seating of the stadium. Terrible, terrible idea unless you're Oklahoma State or Kansas State and have your FB and BB arenas connected.

Re: Should ISU wait on next phase of Stadium Expansion?

People need to get a clue.
again...Nobody knows what the heck is going on. What if that donor doesn't want to donate 10 million towards a BBall facility? Pollard probably went to Gmac and said sorry, but I have this opportunity and I have to run with it. Your are getting a bunch on great upgrades on campus that will stop the bleeding until we can fund the practice facility.

2. Everyone needs frickin chill about the empty seats. There are stadiums all around the country that have empty seats in for the majority of the season. They get filled for a few games and those are millions generated.
your main recruits will need to be brought in on games agains UNI, Iowa, Nebraska etc. We are keeping capacity about the same and its not like we are asking for 75,000 seats. And we will get better. A couple of bowl seasons we will probably be mad there isn't 60,000 "real" seats.

3. maybe Chris Williams can shoot the Trib and email and ask them to research something first before explaining what everyone and their dog already knows.

I have said multiple times its going to be harder to fund the bball facility because it gets no tv time or exposure and is 2nd in line.
The Basketball facility is the Big elephant in the room. Don't think Pollard doesn't know what the deal is.

If you want to talk about getting left in the dust.....Look at our football stadium. The face of Iowa State Athletics is a small wind tunnel that is bottom of the barrel in the conference.

At least Hilton is one of the nicest places to play in the conference.

EDIT:Sorry about being so bitter about this.

I think it would really help recruiting if it was all just attached to Hilton. All in one. No leaving across the parking lot when its cold.

I agree with that statement. Although it was better than Bruce Vandevelde Plan. Which was to throw Gene Smiths plan in the garbage and then hide.

At least they got the IPF out of the whole deal...so it wasn't a complete waste.

Pollard has this all under control. He knows more than most the need for a BB practice facility. Ames Trib should have waited before spouting off.

Do or do not, there is no try .....Yoda

It's an editorial, so why would they need to contact him? People are way to bent out of shape about an editorial probably penned by somebody that knows as much about the situation as I do.

Boo, I dont like that. Bowl it in and eliminate grass seating, for the win.

If it was only that easy, build more seats for more money. The difference is Nebraska fills 80,000 seats every Saturday, we couldn't. They don't have to compete to get the attendance from other schools like we do with Iowa, they are the only show. Just because you may have a large stadium doesn't mean the money will come pouring in, especially if those extra seats are empty since an empty seat doesn't need a ticket to get into the stadium.

If it is an either/or (which I am not sure it is) the basketball practice facility should take precedence.

Too many teams wait until a break out year (i.e. Kansas) to even think about adding on. Why not be ahead of the curve and not have to turn people away when we're winning 9, 10....maybe even 11 games :-)
